I've seen these on N-frames from (I believe) the late '70s. Specifically, I recall seeing them on a Model 27-2, among others.

Can anyone give a time frame these were factory stocks, and on what models? I haven't been able to find them in the normal sticky thread on stock types.

Am I right to believe they weren't produced for a long period?

This 29-5 is from around 1990, part of the 12 revolver set. Joe

I was wondering about that right side cut out on one of my Model 29s. That makes a lot of sense, even though mine is not a commemorative.

At some later date, they appear to have sold target type smooth stocks with a more generous speed loader cut (almost L shape). I bought a set from someone here still in the original factory package. No idea what the wood is, claimed as "Brazilian Walnut", but not dark wood. Good fit to the gun, needed work to fit to the hand.

Were they only original to commemoratives? Or, did S&W use them on other guns, during that time frame?
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Model duty issued 66-1's had dual relieved checked target stocks, but did have the MHP logo, 1931-1981 on the sideplate.
The commemorative 50th Anniversary version had the smooth targets and different barrel markings.
