Not surprising. I was waiting for someone to confirm that. I figured both the sending and the receiving end of that thing would be painful.

You're right Kanew, intriguing but a there's got to be a better way.

OMG!!!!
The recoil is horrendous!!
DoubleTap Defense - Creators of DoubleTap?

I was intrigued and happened to be at the right place at the right time to shoot one. I won't be buying one but the design was interesting. Maybe the 9MM version will be better!:o:eek::rolleyes:

+1 I've been waiting for some real honest feedback on this little creation. I read that there had been a problem last year with the original company chosen to manufacture the gun, thus creating a delay in it coming to market. I'll take Kanew's word that this indeed is the mouse that roared. It looks to be the size of a J-frame, so I'll assume it's on par with a .357 being shot from an Airweight. Ouch ...

Another guy that shot it is a BIG man. His hand is the size of a baseball glove. Ok, not quite but you get the idea.

First time he fired it he said "OUCH!!" ;)

There is one for sale at our Trap Club's gunshop. I looked at it today, but couldn't see why I'd prefer it over my 642.
Nonetheless, I was thinking about it.

Could sell the P380, maybe the LC9, too as I don't carry them much. Could stick this little bugger in my cargo pocket on the left side, yeah, maybe ....

Now I know for sure that I will just stick with the little Smith.

Thanks, you have saved me money (and pain). ;)

I suspect this gun was built for those with too much money who won't ever shoot it.

Thanks for sharing. I too, was intrigued by the concept.
The limit of two rounds would've kept me away, maybe.
But, when You say the recoil is horrendous, that's
a voice of experience. 'Sides, I've already got a little gun
that draws blood at every range session.
Glad it wasn't my hand that checked it out!

I thought that some of you might appreciate some information about the DoubleTap .45 from someone that has actually shot one. I find that the recoil is substantial with the 230 grain ball ammo, however, it is no worse than .357 mag out of a J frame airweight and a lot less than .460 mag out of 460 ES snubby.
I hope to try some 185 grain and 200 gain loads out of this gun as soon as I can obtain those loads. The gun is not designed for +P loads.

As the above YouTube video shows, I had a chance to try out some 165 grain Federal Hydra-Shoks in the DoubleTap derringer today. The recoil was noticeably less than I encountered with any of the 230 grain or 185 grain loads. Accuracy was as good or better than with the heavier bullets and a follow-up shot was no problem.

How about the old COP .357 Magnum?
