I would love to be able to find a good field in Northwest Georgia. I took my grandson to a public field last year and it was terrible. I can't believe some people who call themselves hunters.

CONGRATS!!!! Would love to find a feild around here but they seem to be as scarce as Reg MAG's. Have driven as far as two hours in the past, but even those seem to have gone away. :(

Can't wait. We open here September 1st. My son and I have been dove hunting buddies for the last 27 years. Since I broke my back three years ago,I've had trouble on traditional hunts in that walking from where we park to a spot in the field can be a painful ordeal depending on the distance. Last year my boy planted part of his "yard" in sunflowers. Enough room for six shooters, max. My grandchildren take me to my spot on the golf cart and are close enough (on the back porch) to be summoned verbally should I be in need of liquid refreshment (no,not alcohol) or on the rare occasion that I require additional shells. ;) If we choose our shots properly, the birds fall onto the lawn between us and the house (enter the grandkids to fetch the kills and chase the cripples). :D It is a downright dee-lightful way to pursue those little grey missiles, not to mention the fact that we limited out every time we shot the little buggers.

The 45 bird possession limit is more conducive to a three day weekend hunt. It's good to see Tx P & W recognize this.

I'm going to look around and see if I can't find a place to hunt a day or two this fall. I bought a couple of side by side doubles I'd like to give a try.

Back in my hunt club days, I'd go three or four times a year. I was never any good at it, it was about the only time I shot at anything flying at all, but it sure was fun. More of a social event than anything else. Bar-B-Qued doves, Brunswick stew, hush puppies and coleslaw...good eatin'.

45, holy smoke. Maybe i should move over to the neighboring state during hunting season.

You do understand that it is 15 per day and 45 total possession. During decades of hunting and fishing in Texas I've been checked by game wardens four times. All four times were during dove season in the Rio Grande Valley. All four times everyone in my party was in compliance. I'd rather pay for good beef than over limit fines for dove birds.

One of my good hunting buddies was caught with 12 over the limit and the game warden only wrote him up for 3 over the limit... The judged assessed him a fine of $250 per bird.

I am just glad to read a post about an upcoming season of any kind. Today I kind of wish I was freezing in my favorite deer hunting spot. Or maybe rabbit hunting in the snow. Maybe calling a turkey in close enough for a good shot. I love hunting everything that I have hunted. The eating is fantastic as well. Thanks for the uplifting post on one hot humid afternoon here in the Ozarks!
Peace,
Gordon

For me a Houstonian, it is going to be a long drive to find decent dove hunting. In a big year I may drive down to the RG Valley twice. It is generally a social event, but with the cost involved I'd like to come back with birds. Having the possession limit set to 3 times the daily limit makes sense to someone like me who faces about a 350 mile drive each way. A $750 fine would buy me a lot of high end dead cow from my favorite local butcher and I could occasionally nail a Mourning or White Wing Dove off my patio with a well placed BB from my trusty old Daisy BB rifle. No, I do not shoot dove off my patio with a BB gun but I could.

Season??? I don't season em till after I choot em..

Honestly expected to see more recipes in this thread. My quick favorite...

Fillet breast, marinate in rice wine vinegar 1 hour. Remove and sprikle lightly with salt and not so lightly with fresh ground black pepper. Grill till done. Serve on toasted hard roll, (french bread or the like) with Dukes mayo and fresh sliced tomato.

Hey...look at that. There's lunch now :D

Let's see your dove guns!

I'm down to one shotgun, a Rem. 870 Wingmaster in 12 ga. I had to sell my Beretta M-391 Gold Urika, but hope to replace it before long.

An old friend of the family gears up every year for dove season. Loads his Winchester model 12 and his dog in his hunting car{an old station wagon}, puts on his hunting jacket and boots. When he finds a likely looking field he pours a bag of 7 1/2 shot in the ditch next to the car and then drives home. Claims he's got it out of his system till next year.

My little camera and I find it difficult to take good pictures of long guns.

What is attached is a Remington 1100 LT 20 gauge with 26" barrel and my Ruger Red Label 12 gauge with 26" barrels. The Ruger is my go to gun for any bird hunting, and for dove hunting the Model 1100 LT would serve as a secondary backup piece.

Recipe: breast them out, get a toothpick and stack on a slice of onion, half a breast, some cream cheese, then a slice of jalapeño. Wrap with half a slice of thin bacon and put them on the grill. After you get full drive to the hospital and Pre check-in for the heart attack that is coming:)

Favorite shotgun: Winchester Model 21
