New to the forum so please be gentle.
Bought a 649 because I wanted a .357 all-steel with a shrouded hammer instead of DAO. Otherwise I would have bought the 640 Pro. So I figured I'd upgrade the 649 myself. Hogue grips. Did a conservative trigger / action job, replaced the front sight with a tritium/fiber hybrid, since there are off the shelf options. Went to look at rear sight options and...there aren't any, besides the D&Ls that mimic the way the larger frame S&W revolvers are hooked up.
I want to machine in a dovetail like on the 640 Pro. But Smith is out of stock of those sights as a direct replacement part (and it was frankly unusually hard to get them to even tell me that). Novak won't admit to making them and neither will Trijicon, even though I'm 90 percent sure that's exactly who does it.
So what I'm asking--begging, pleading--is if anyone has a source for this? Or, failing that, is there an off the shelf novak-style dovetail sight that will work for the geometry of a steel J-frame like the 649? Relevant measurements? Anything?
My appreciation would be immense.
