Well, made my first mistke ever, bought a box of .22 bullets, turns out they are .227 instead of .224. Turns out they are used for Savage .22 High power. I had a thought, if a .311 bullet can be shot in a .308 chamber like an early ruger mini-30 could this bullet be safely shot in place of a .224 bullet, as .003 difference is same in both. By the way, anybody have the Savage High power .22, sounds interesting.

It's not a terrifically good idea to load .227" bullets to fire through a .224" groove diameter barrel. It may not seem like much, it is enough to make chamber pressures go SKY HIGH, into the DANGEROUS category, even for starting loads. It will also ruin any chance for fine accuracy you have in the .224" barrel. When I was young and stupid, I loaded up a couple boxes of .30-06 using .311" jacketed military bullets. They seemed to shoot okay in an M1 Garand, but after careful testing, the M1 that formerly shot 1 1/2" to 2" groups at 100 yards now shot 3" to 4" groups using .308" bullets. The only difference was the two 20-round boxes of oversized bulletsw fired.

Still have a couple of Savage 99s in 22 HP. He still go BANG every time. Long sloping case and not very petent by modern standrds.

Unless you have a compelling reason to shoot/use one they have long outlived any ballistic advantage.
