Dump out your pockets......

I'd gone out early this morning to walk one of the dogs after I fired up the coffe maker.

Get home 45 mins later and get to sipping on that wonderful first mug of the day.

Empty pocket contents from my walk. These are pretty much my everday front pocket items.

I got to thinking about it after getting home that I should dig around in my hunting pack and find my smallest Streamlight Nightfighter and add it to these predawn walks. I've got a handy flashlight app on the DroidX, but it's slow to access......handy for many uses, though, but no match compared to a tactical light, even a small one like mine.


What are you toting around with you on such journeys?

... the Mod 60 is sometimes replaced with a 442 but the rest of the stuff is just what an old guy has in his pockets.

Sweet grips on that M60.

I think they're the older factory version of the "boot grip" on the bottom of the S&W homepage of J frame grips. (Grip: Checkered Rosewood)

Only difference I see is the Smith emblem.

I like a grip with some fullness in the front strap & under the trigger guard and these fill the bill.

I used to use service grips with a Tyler-T but I sold my Tyler adapters and bought a Cadillac Escalade with the proceeds!

Nice grips.......I hear ya on the Escalade funding..... That little Ken Onion Chive is a very, very handy little knife. I carry mine a good bit at work. We've got a restriction on allowable blade length there....the Chive is "legal" at work. Crazy rule but very useful little knife.

I've got to dig through my hunting gear and find it. It was made by Streamlight, from their Nightfighter series. I believe it is the NF-2.

It's one I've had for several years from back in my bowhunting days. The beam is very intense and works great for bloodtrailing...on par with the good old Coleman lanterns. Only downside is the runtime is short and when it goes.....it goes instantly from full bright to dead battery....no diming first. Can be a major gripe when you are well back in a swamp and it's your only light. Happened to me once....once.....I added a 4AA Streamlight pair to my backpack after that and used the NF-2 only for when I needed a supernova beam.


I'll add in my pics of it when I find it. It's a handy little monster.

I'm sure they newer versions are better, cheaper, etc.

I got bored a couple of months ago and decided to take a picture of what I typically carry day-to-day.

Starting on the right, going clockwise:

3" S&W 65-3 (loaded with Buffalo Bore 158gr standard pressure .38 Special LSWCHP) in a Wraith IWB holster by Seth's Gun Leather
Benchmade Mini-Presidio, set up for left-hand pocket carry
Surefire E1B flashlight
Leatherman Fuse multi-tool, bladeless version
4 rounds of Speer 135gr .38 Special +P Short-Barrel GDHP in a Tuff Products Quick Strip
Simply Rugged ammo pouch (spill-type)
Red pouch: Mini first-aid kit (band aids, gauze, butterfly sutures, alcohol wipes, nitrile gloves, Cellox)
Black pouch: Keychain CPR mask
Benchmade Houdini keychain (window breaker, seatbelt cutter, LED flashlight, rescue whistle)
3" x 5" Rite in the Rain notebook with zippered pouch (first aid kit fits inside pouch)
Zebra F-701 pen with Fisher Space Pen refill

I also have my wallet and cell phone on me, but I didn't feel like taking pictures of them. I took the keychain items off my keys for the picture.

My carry does vary somewhat, sometimes substituting my Leatherman Juice CS4 multi-tool for the Fuse, my Emerson Mini-CQC-7BW for the Mini-Presidio if I can't carry a gun but can carry a knife, and either my 2" 64-4 or my 642 for the 65. I have a Spyderco Chicago for times when I'm limited to a knife with a 2" blade.

I figure I'm in good shape, unless my escape route requires swimming, in which case I'm screwed.

GF's grips on the M60 are Altamont. If you go to their website you will find them in the "J-Frame" area but they do make them for the K-Frames as well.

Altamont grips are excellent and very affordable.
