Durability of FDE?

Considering the new 2.0 9mm.

What is your thoughts on the durability of the color? Will it wear off after a few hundred draws from a kydex holster?

Is the polymer FDE throughout, or just a topcoat? I saw one on Gunbroker that had black marks all over the polymer and was wondering if it was just dirt or something more serious.

For those that have them.... are the grips the same color as the ]frame? I've seen photos where they match, and photos where they don't!

The slide might show some wear at some point since it is a coat, but still durable, the polymer is not color coated so it won't fade, or loose it's color it might get scratched or stained though. Usually is 100% color match.

I’ve a 2.0 FDE. No signs of wear though not hundreds of holsterings yet. The slide and frame are a slightly different color in everyone I’ve seen.

Absolutely love the gun. Best out of the box plastic gun I’ve ever had.

Happened to search for a M&P 2.0 FDE and there it was - no reserve, 30 min left. New with 2 mags!

They mis match slightly in color. Mine has been durable so far. It is cerakote over armornite over stainless. So I am not worried.

I like FDE and supect this finish on the M&P is as durable as the black versions. My concern would be in matching to color shade if /when touch up time comes. FDE is a color that is all over the spectrum without standard.

The different colors are, as far as I know, all done with the same kind of materials. They are all an add-on coating, while the surface itself is hardened before being colored.

I've never seen an explanation of what the materials used to color the slides of ANY of these guns are made of -- but I've no reason to think it's Cerakote or a similar coating -- OR NOT.

If it is Cerakote or something different, it seems certain that Cerakote's durability is very much dependent on how it's applied -- and many of the home/DIY applications don't hold up as well as those done professionally to more exacting standards by people paid to do it.

That said, holsters will take a toll on almost any finish except Hard Chrome or (uncolored stainless steel, but that's not a finish.)

I do have some holster wear on mine, but it's not that bad. All of my black plastic-fantastics do too, but they're not safe queens so no big deal to me. The color on mine, between grips, frame, and slide, seems to be a perfect match. Some people replace the FDE grips with black ones to make it more personal. Other than that, I have not seen a different color/shade on grips.
