Anyone have experience with the small red dot sights, mounted on the slide? My old information was the frame mounted units lasted much longer. Dr Optic, J Point, etc...
hi poohgyrr, only thing i can tell you is my mate has a small red dot mounted on his ruger magnum he uses full blown loads and it is still going strong after a year ,if you get a good one i dont think you'll have a problem as long as it is well mounted .
Well, Freedom Arms feels they are durable enough to mount on their 454 revolvers. Scroll to the bottom of this page FREEDOM ARMS INC While definitely not the same, I shoot a Beretta 87 Target in Steel Challenge matches with a Doktor Sight mounted on a Weaver rail. I have had quite a few rounds through it with no trouble.
One of the most common set ups for bullseye pistol is to slide mount an Ultra Dot on a .45 1911. I have not heard of failures, but if it was a problem I'm pretty sure the BullseyeL list would be full of reports.
I have a 10mm Glock with a Trijicon Red Dot on it and have shot several hundred hot 10mm rounds including Double tap rounds and the sight has held up great. I can't say enough about how great this sight is. It allows my older eyes to shoot like I was 20 years old again.
We have several shooters that have them slide mounted on their .45s' but they are using lighter Bullseye loads with them. If John is getting by on his 10mm then I'd say you'd be good to go on anything. Myself I'd be leery of anything with a higher slide velocity like 10 or 40.
I have had this site on my bowling pin gun for years and thousands of rounds. I took it off and had it on a P-16 Para 40 for about a year but I think the 45 is a better pin gun.
The dot never moves, I have changed the batteries many times and never had a problem.
I'll have to see if FA states which brand or model is working for them; and if a G20 w/ Double Taps isn't breaking the sight then it sounds good. Even the results the bullseye guys are getting sound better than what I heard back when.
Anyone mounted one of these on a Gen 3? The Trijicons on my 5906 are dimming, and my 50+ year old eyes simply aren't what they were 20 years ago.
