Well to night the LF and I were returning from Arlington after a dinner with some church folks. I see a guy crowding the yellow line coming from behind me. I slow let him pass and follow him. He is classic DWI. Made 911 contact. I followed him for 26 minutes before the PD could catch up to us. Not bashing them the story is long. He gets stopped and tries the blood sugar thing. Here comes AFD and MEdstar. I m cut loose by APD circle the block to head back home and the medical guys are leaving and APD is cuffing and stuffing. Brings back fond memories. Drunks are not bright. IMHO

Hopefully, it will smarten the guy up, before he kills someone...

Good guys one, nuckle heads 0. Id like to be able to post some of the videos from my car camera. The embarresment alone may have some effect on these law breakers.

Good job getting him off the street. It terrifies me when I think how many times I drove drunk before I got sober. You performed a real service.

Well, congratulations. The last time I reported a drunk driver, the cops just said, "Thanks, but one our officers will have to see it."

I lived in Iowa from 1986 to 1996. During that time cell phones became more common. A driver in Des Moines called the State Patrol to report a suspected drunk driver on I-80. The troopers were all busy and the Patrol didn't respond and the drunk caused an accident where someone was killed. The Patrol had egg on it's face. They announced that the policy would now be that these calls take top priority.

I wonder if it was the same guy I saw driving East in the West bound lane on Division just East of 360.

The "blood sugar thing"?

Low blood surgar can cause very similar symptoms as being drunk. Seen several "drunks " picked up and taken to the ER for blood draw only to end up being treated for low blood sugar.

So call it "driving while impaired" and arrest 'em anyhow. I don't really care whether the guy that ran me down has low blood sugar, is tweaking, or is on hydrocodone for his compressed vertebra. He's still not fit to drive, and I was still hit.

I've run across my share of medical conditions over the years and they have never driven away. Car gets towed and they either go to the hospital or have someone pick them up.

There's a Grief Group at my house tonight for DUI survivors who have lost loved ones . It is getting better because of people like you- you don't drive impaired yourself and you don't let it slide when you see it happening. Still a long way to go but thank you for not putting up with it.

Good citizenship duty on your part... I wish more people would take the initiative to do the right thing. You may have saved someone's life by your actions. Bravo to you!

So to you diabetes or any medical condition is now illegal. Its not illegal to drive while on prescription meds as far as I know.

One of the worst "drunks" I observed turned out to be a severe diabetic. His medical bracelet saved his hide. Due to his clothing we did not observe it in the beginning, I found it when I did the pat down.

I believe, if you cannot control your vehicle, it is called "Driving under the influence", and is illegal. All fifty states, as far as I know.

Medical condition. Hmmmm. How about "paralyzed from the breast-bone down, attempting to drive a regular car, using a stick to push the gas and brake"?

Reckon he ought to be arrested? I mean, heck, it's a medical condition. He's a paraplegic.

Ooo, ooo. How about a blind guy driving? That's a medical condition.

If you have diabetes, and you have your diabetes under control, and have the car under control, then fine. No problem.

If you have diabetes, and DON'T have it under control, and you are going into insulin shock, then no - you don't need to be driving. If your blood sugar is low and you're hallucinating and can't control the car, then no - you don't need to be driving. And if they catch you driving they need to put your butt in jail.
