625Smith, as an Eagle Scout and former Scoutmaster myself, I am sure your son will come thru with flying colors. You and your family must be quite proud of your son as I know I am of all scouts who achieve the rank of Eagle. Getting to this point takes a lot of very hard work and the knowledge he has gained in reaching this point will serve both he and society at large the rest of his life. Again , all my very best to your son and your family. Joe

The EBOR is pretty much a gimme if he has done his project to completion and done the other requirements.

My cousin (1974 Eagle) and I welcomed 3 of his 4 quadruplets (3 boys, 1 girl) to the Eagle Fraternity 6 weeks ago! That makes 5 of us Eagles in the family!

I am an eagle scout. Congratulations on the kid.

I have no kids, but my nephew is going through it. From where I stand, I think it's kind of a shame what the Scouts have become. In my day (both me and my brother are Eagle) you didnt get your Eagle until you were 17, or at least 16. It was tough, you learned a lot about life and leadership. Now I see kids getting Eagle at 13 or 14. I ask how one can be a true leader or learn some life lessons by 13. I also see lots of babying of the kids, them not doing very many "tough" things, moms involved (there were zero women/moms when I was in scouts), dumbing down of the requirements to make rank. I did my eagle project a couple months before I turned 18 and had by BOR a couple weeks prior.

I think at it's core, scouting is still good, but I think it needs a kick in the pants. Maybe it's different in other parts of the country. In my nephew's troop, they are allowed to bring electronics, junk food, prepared meals. Had one story of kids bringing subway sanwiches. We were not allowed to have any electronics other than a flashlight (not that there were electronics really, but no radio), no soda or junk food.

I remember sitting at my son's EBOR. My son, my brother, two of my lifelong friends & I are all Eagle Scouts. Congratulations to you & your son.
Regards,

Allow me to add my congratulations as well. A significant accomplishment that is overlooked in this day and age.

Life long moral compass

Its a life long set of values-My son is a Captain with three combat tours-and he will always be an Eagle Scout-Scouting taught him leadership, taking care of your people, honor. I was honored to become an Eagle Scout in 1966-Our Explorer Troop was a rifle team-
I met my future wife shooting competition-but that is an added benefit to the Scouting.

Congratulations to your son for his Eagle Scout and you for raising a boy who can achieve his Eagle. Eagle Scout is a great accomplishment that helps lead to many other accomplishments. Its not so much the rank, but the people who achieve the rank tend to be the ones who accomplish more in life.

My youngest son got more out of Scouting than my oldest. When my youngest son was assitant senior patrol leader he was dumped on the the senior patrol leader who did nothing. Then when he was Senior patrol leader his assitant senior patrol leader dropped the ball and did nothing he was asked to do. Needless to say the boys on either side of him did not do well. But I was there with my son all the way and he learned that to do something right you must do it yourself. He ahs learned how to draw the best out of people and help them to achive to thier fullest potential. He has learned how to think for himself, has become a real leader and has achived far above his piers in his chosen field and has many offers and opportunities. I am very proud of him.
He does have a very lively sense of humor. see pic! Yes this kid is an Eagle Scout!

Good going raising that young man right!! I served as a Scoutmaster and it was a real accomplishment to see these youths grow into men and I am proud of "assisting" on the way. Parents are the key to scouting, the more involved they are the better the troop is.

I got my eagle in 1957 and both of my sons are eagles. Interesting observation - - - looking at the posts here and in talking with other eagles, they don't say "I was an eagle," they say "I am an eagle." It is with you for the rest of your life.
