Early 38 Nickel Hand Ejector

First of all, I want to say this is a great site with a ton of knowledgeable folks. Thanks for sharing.

I don't have much history on this gun other than it once belonged to my great uncle. My dad inherited it back in the 70's and now me.

You can see from the pics that the finish is worn in several places and the grips are not original (Franzite grips). Wish I had those original ones.

S/N 72194. Barrel length is 4".

I don't know much about this S&W series, so looking for when it was built and which specific model it is. Any other info y'all can provide on this old pistol would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum.

Your revolver shipped from the factory with a blued finish. The "B" prefix to the serial number that is stamped under the barrel is the "tell".

It was nickel plated later on, but not by S&W. S&W didn't plate the hammer or trigger and the extractor star would have been left in the blue as well.
