Yesterday my wife, who hasn't been to a gunshow in maybe 15 years, decided to take the ride down to Lakeland for the small but still excellent "Tri annual LRPC gunshow." Doc has the COVID so I appreciated the company. Since the tables are re-oriented 90* with a large central aisle it's much easier to get around. Ran into a guy I've known for maybe 25 years, noticed he had lost over 100lbs and mentioned this. He said: "Cancer will do that to ya." Awkward.
Several reasons this show is still great:
1) "Private Sales" are OK. Tables had signs to this effect, walk-ins toting guns to sell/trade. I saw exactly 1 person filling out a 4473.
2) If'n you are "flush$$" you could put together an excellent collection of S&W pre-82 revolvers, or P08 Lugers, or Broomhandles, or P38's both Nazi and commercial, or Jap Nambu's, or Parker doubles, or Browning O/U's, or Model 12 Winchesters.......
3) Outside of knives there was no "non-gun" tables evident. Nobody wanted to clean my glasses or build a "hidey closet" in my house.
4) Everybody on both sides of the tables had great attitudes and were very courteous to my wife.

Prices: For the most part, unmarked." Nothing special 80% Model 15-3 $995. Nice 2" Model 34-1 with box $1400. Model 18-3, beautiful $1500. Very nice 4" 10-6 HB's $900. Model 14-3 6" $1300. It's exhausting first getting attention to ask about an item, then breathing normally after getting the "special gunshow price." I gave up on trying when I saw the 3" Model 66-2, I guarantee my "cash wad" wouldn't cover half it. I would think at the average age in the room they have already put children and grandchildren through college.
One priceless moment: After a couple hours of listening to my explanations of the "P08 toggle mechanism, the inferiority of the Japanese Nambu and the genius of John M. Browning" my wife had the glaze on her face. I said: "Informtion overload?" She said "I'm just thinking back to our 1st dates, just like this." I love this girl. Joe

We use to go to Lakeland for the shows especially when it was at the civic center. Great shows and if it wasn't there, it hadn't been made. Nowadays 4 + hours there and back are not appealing. Glad to hear it was a good show, have a friend that sells there, hope he did well.

Joe, you missed the nickel model 15 on my table priced at $600. We had a big start Friday while setting up, I sold a model 36 in the box for $500 and a nickel flat latch model 36 for $450 ( that was a "good friend" price.) No need to mention all the Colts we sold. Yesterday was pretty slow but I agree, it's still a good show.
Regards,

John, I'm sorry we didn't stop and say hello. I completely missed the SWCA table cover. I'll be back in September. Concerned that some folks are disappearing permanently: R Hedley the holster maker and collector of engraved SW's, Sal R. and "Hurricane Charlie" from South Florida. Dick Stover (Diamonback68) is still alive but at almost 90 doesn't drive and hasn't attended a show in a great while. The average age in the room had to be 75. Glad you had a good show. Joe

Buddy and I talked about going but decided to wait until September. Our club used to hire a bus and many of us went around 08 until just few years ago. Sadly many of the guys that went can not go anymore.

I miss Diamonback68. Give him my regards if you see him.

He's down in Sebring, I haven't been down that way since the 20th Century. Got an email back from him lunchtime:

"Yea, doing okay in a way. Still do the bone marrow booster shots every Monday here at home. Having some other minor bladder problems that are too early to tell, wish me luck. Glad to hear you are enjoying your retirement, I know I do. Take care RLS."

The Janurary show is the best to attend. More dealers and folks just wandering around with stuff to sell.

Joe, I really wanted to make this show, but with all the excitement from last weekend, I had to bow out. I've already marked my calendar for the September show on the 17th and 18th. I look forward to seeing you then.

Nice thing about Sept is "opposite motivation." Most of Saturday's "toters" had long guns looking to turn for handguns. Goes the other way in the fall (barring massive political stupidity). Big family events are way more important than gunshows Tom. Joe

Best news I've heard in a long time... It was Dick that
started me on the slippery slope of collecting 27's:rolleyes::D:D:D

It was a 5" Nickle, his words were " If you don't buy it I will " .:D

Those words cost me plenty too. His "greatest magic trick" though was in the parking lot of the Kissimmee Golden Corral. After an inedible breakfast he broke out a couple briefcases of, what else, Diamondbacks. Every finish, barrel length, in both .22 and .38 spl. Gotta be over 15 years ago but I'll never forget it. Joe

As a 30+ years member of the Lakeland Rifle & Pistol Club, I want to thank you all for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the show; however, we have three shows a year. Show #2 of this year in May (see attachment). It is our smallest show of the year, but you never know what you are going to find there. Hope you can make it! :-)
