A silly question here.
Was the early M&P round butt frame, like this (gorgeous) one the same as the newer round butt K frame?
Would the grips interchange?

Should be, unless current production K frames have a new grip frame. I don't pay much attention to new S&Ws. That is a really nice gun, tell us more about it please! Is the finish original or a reblue? We want more pictures!

The wrench in the works is that the early grip frames weren't the same from one gun to the next. The general size and shape was awful close.

I've removed (and now lost) the original rubbers that came on my 696. What I put on it was a nice set of diamond Magna's. Makes it look a whole lot better (to me.) I've test fitted some 19-teens gold medallion grips and they seem to fit fairly well. Since those grips don't have any pencil markings on them, I've concluded that those were spare or replacement grips that never sold.

So yes, the grip frames on all thru the years seems to have been the same approximate dimension and curvature. Just don't bet the farm on them being right for your early gun.
