eBay Fees

Yep..eBay takes a good chunk of your money. They even get 13% of what it cost to ship an item. That being said..their selling market is unbeatable.

There are many things I have sold on eBay that I would have never found a buyer for locally.80% of something is much better than 100% of zero. You can try Craigslist but unless you are basically giving it away, or it's a high demand item, it is futile.

eBay is the best game around to sell general "flea market" items..just realize up front they will take their generous slice of the pie..AND you will get a 1099K (also reported to the IRS) if you sell over $600 worth of merchandise (gross sales!) in a year.

I just started to use ebay and was shocked their fees are so high.
I guess it's been easy to find someone to buy the stuff. Ebay does have a huge following.

I'm left with pricing what I'm selling higher than what I would want for the buyer. And it may look or appear as if I'm the one who's inflating the prices- but it's not my fault.

Everyone wants to make a buck. EBay wants a bigger cut of the pie.

I do sell on ebay. To tell the truth I don't mind the percentage...but them taking their percentage of shipping sucks. Local auctioneers are getting 20-25%..but no shipping

With our move and all I have sold a plethora of items on eBay over the last few years. Yes, they charge quite a bit as a sellers fee, however it does allow you to gain access to the entire Country in one easy step. They also do give some support if you get a bad buyer.

Am I happy about giving up 20% - no! That said, I have cleaned out and gotten rid of plenty of unwanted or unneeded stuff I had cluttering things up. 20% seems to be about the norm as a commission in gun shops as well. At the point of getting paid for sold items, it's all "found money" and I am glad to gain the clean space in our closets and shelves.

This is probably common knowledge but I believe the reason they started to charge on shipping costs was that many people - on a $100.00 item were selling it for $1.00 and then charging $99.00 (or something similar) for shipping.

I thought the 1099 trigger amount had changed....to what I don't know, I've not sold on there for a few years now

I tried to sell an item on eBay. I wasn't concerned about the fees, but I said will only sell to U.S.A. customer. I had a guy try to buy it. I checked his address and it was U.S. address, but if was a U.S. mail forwarding service to the Ukraine. There were also numerous post about people using this address to commit fraud.

I declined his payment, he got ticked off and said I was costing him money and was reporting me to eBay. I pulled the item off eBay and haven't used eBay again.

Don't use eBay, your choice. I buy stuff there all the time though and it used to be tax free, no longer that either.
