I don't smoke anymore and I can't stand to smoke, but people nowadays bring ecigs around and say, "It's just water vapor". Well I believed that for a while, but several people have developed really bad throat and cough problems after smoking them only a few weeks. I'll spare the details but some of the throat problems are downright gross. Anyway, I decided today that the flavors in them are extremely irritating and I don't want to be around them. Man, give me a cigarette any day. Usually those take longer to kill you.

If anybody mentions trying ecigs, don't encourage them and if they do they'd better be really picky about what flavorings they put in them.

I just read in the news that scientists are finding out the same thing.

Yep, the wildcard is the flavor component.
You can better your odds by mixing your own juice.
You can control everything about it that way.
You can also slide right off nicotine without as much as a twitch.
But the best flavors seem to be TFA, which tries to cater to the best interests of the vape industry.
Also nicotine levels tend to be too high.
Which, in my experience, is necessary to make the transition from cigs.
It does have an irritating quality about it and thus, should be reduced as it becomes comfortable to do so.

An ex smoker myself. I really don't care whether someone wants to smoke. A personal choice. And I do not like the way people want to blame second hand smoke for all the ills of others. That said I also maybe just don't get it with ecigarettes. just water vapor is probably BS. If you are sucking it in it isn't all just wv coming out. Now I didn't use gum pills patches or what have you to quit. If you want to quit just stop. I also think that many people who use e cigs want to be PC and use the modern alternative with no regard for others. And with NO real oversight for e cigs from anywhere there is going to be abuse of the contents of the darn things. Betcha there are people figuring how to get illicit drugs in the darn things. Or already have. Course I also disagree with legalizing drugs. Even cannabis. But then...I don't really drink alcohol either.

The label on my pipe tobacco clearly states that it is known to the State of California to cause cancer. The same warning was on my TV remote.

Fortunately, I do not live in California, thus smoking is harmless here.

Well Gator I think you may have missed the point?
Smoking is not harmless in Wyoming, it does not support a bazillion government researchers, agencies, bureaucrats, and politicians producing these warnings like it does in California. So the unemployment in Wyoming is effecting something! 😎

Hahahahaha. I love that sense of humor. Sometimes I think the remote for the TV may be the most dangerous to your health!!

Did someone miss the humor in Gators post?

My question about ecigs is why would you stop smoking something to smoke something else? Seems a little counter productive to me.

not counter productive in the least.
with the vape route, you will usually prefer vape over lighting up.
a cigarette becomes rather revolting by comparison.
You will likely never smoke one again, and will opt for vape instead if you relapse down the road.
that's not a small detail by any means.

Unlike other quit smoking systems, you have absolute control over nicotine levels.
you can mix this stuff from brutal sledgehammer 24mg down to 0 and any point in between.
there is absolutely no reason to endure nicotine withdrawal along the way.

Not making a PC statement here..I see a few people here and there using the ecigs, Every one I have seen is much younger than me. I think many who use them are younger and some think it looks cool. I do know the ads you see are pointed towards the younger generation. But so were cigarette ads. I see the FDA getting involved in these things in the near future. Can you possibly see a prescription being needed to purchase the materials?? LOL! That would be a hoot. I've actually thought that could be the future of cigarettes too. Gummit likes to control ya know.

BTW VB everyone I know that uses the ecigs also smoke cigarettes. They use the e's for places where they can't smoke real cigs. I don't think the ecigs are meant as a stop smoking aid no matter how they are advertised.

well the term "ecig" covers a whole lot of territory too.
your little cigalike types such as the BLU .. that's approximately a 4 watt system that fails miserably if you intend to fully transition.
up the scale to your EGo types ... thats 8 to 12 watts. still not quite enough.
a solid 30 watt system will cover it though.
For what it's worth, I currently neither smoke, nor vape.
yes, it can work if your not boneheaded about it.

Anybody who says it's "just water vapor" is either misinformed or lying. If it were nothing but water, what would be the point? Your nose will show you the statement is false. Water vapor doesn't have a smell. Vape does.

The danger of second hand smoke is WAY overblown. People who live with heavy smokers day in and day out, have a higher risk of respiratory ailments, but there is no evidence whatsoever that occasional incidental exposure has any negative effects on health. The media has blown the "risk" all out of proportion. You get a lot more exposure to damaging airborne pollutants driving down the freeway at rush hour every day than most people will ever get from other people's tobacco smoke.

Nevertheless, if second hand smoke is bad for you then the risk from some of the chemicals in vape may well be just as bad. The biggest problem is that with no regulation or control, and very little research data to date, we just don't know. How damaging is vaping? How damaging is breathing it second-hand? Nobody knows.

I'm an ex smoker, and I don't preach at others who smoke, likewise I don't preach at those who vape either. But just as I avoid tobacco smoke environments, I also avoid breathing second hand vape - I conquered my 35 year long nicotine addiction and have no desire to wake it up again.

I got off the smokes using the gum, but it took me nearly a year. No nicotine for me thanks.

Years ago tobacco cigarettes were thought to be, even advertised as, healthy! how did that turn out? Will "vapeing" (what a stupid sounding term) be the same, maybe worse?

All current studies point to it being a safer alternative to smoking, some even go so far as to say it's less harmful than walking along the sidewalk of a busy street.
Where it actually lands is for the future to tell.

The known and most common risks are allergic reactions to propylene glycol, and some flavorings not fit for inhalation.

The FDA seems reluctant to drop the hammer on it for now.

Well, a white cloud...

Well, a thick white cloud came out and instantly disappeared. I had no problem with that. But now I notice that the flavors leave smells behind and if it gets on the walls, furniture and carpet you continue to smell it.

But my main gripe is that these things seem to be more unhealthy than cigarettes.

For people that were worried...

Calgon made a 'box' of carbon to put your cell phone in that blocked radiation while you used it. I don't know if they ever sold one. Should have stuck with bath oil beads and water filters.

They are good at one thing.....

My question about ecigs is why would you stop smoking something to smoke something else? Seems a little counter productive to me.

If you use nicotine and no other 'additives' you can reduce the amount of nicotine that makes it easier to quit smoking, but the people I know smoke these like they don't want to quit. Some SAY they do, but I don't see it.

I quit smoking the easy way, too. I just quit.

Yeah, and all I hear....

A lot of young people come to see my son and I'm tired of hearing that they either, lost their ecig, somebody stole their ecig, they want to sell an ecig so they can buy another ecig, they want to drive 20 miles to town to look at a new ecig.......it's an endless pile of........

Like I said before, you CAN use it to wean off nicotine, but I don't see it happening. In fact, a lot of people smoke both ecigs and cigarettes, flavored cigars (yuk), etc. And they smoke that flavored tobacco in a hookah. So yeah, it must be a fashion statement more than anything.
