Wife and I going to Edgefield SC for a meeting of a Goldwing motorcycle forum. Each year we meet some where for 3 days to swap lies, devour copious amounts of food, and ride planned routes. The meeting this year is September 15-17. We are leaving from Rockport Ma.

Edgefield is a small town and has one Inn where we will be staying. There are going to be 69 people and 37 bikes, mostly Goldwings.

So, for those who know the area, is there some where or some place not to be missed? Thanks in advance.

Edit: Thanks all for the reply's. We try to pick out places to hold the rally where there is little to do at the meeting point but neat places to ride to. The attendees are of an age where our hell raising days on a motorcycle are long over. A Goldwing is a quiet motorcycle and those of us who ride them like it that way.

A small town is a great place to meet, not as much traffic or congestion. We like places where people are easy going and down to earth.

There are ride outs planned for each of the 3 days but at this time I do not know to where. Greenville will be high on our list of places to ride to.

Some people like to camp and the town mayor is giving us the soccer field for those who will camp out and providing electric outlets for those who want them. Bathrooms at the soccer field will be left open. He has also offered to shut down town square for one night so we can have a block party. The 2 restaurants next to the square will stay open extra hours to serve us food and beverage.

This should be fun.

Wow. Ya'll picked a little country town with almost nothing there. The turkey federation is homed there and they have a pretty nice museum to walk. through. Other than that take a ride out in the country and enjoy the scenery.....Watch out for tractors on the hwy's..........
And.........
WELCOME TO SC!!!!!!

Take a day trip to Greenville (about 1 hr and 45 minutes). Plenty to do and great places to eat. Great riding through the local mountains too.

Of course, you may have already been there because I think 3 Wing Dings have been held there.

Come over to Saluda for opening day of Dove season. I'll save you a spot on the field.

Are you from Saluda? That's my hometown, though I haven't lived there for many years now.

Original poster - not a great deal to do in Edgefield.

You can drink, if you bring your own beer, wine, or whiskey;
You can have sex, if you bring your wife or girlfriend;
You can work on your bike, if you bring your own tools;
You can sit and watch the sunset, if you bring your own chair.

Other than those, not much.

Nope but about 30 mins from it. I spend a lot of my hunt time there. Plenty of private land access and WMA land also.

You picked a tough place for nearby notable tourist spots. On the way down, I81 or the Blue Ridge Parkway are pretty routes. Harrahs Cherokee Casino just west of Asheville is a good overnight. Greenville SC has excellent restaurants and a pretty main street with Falls Park where a unique bridge spans the river. Everyone should see Charleston and Savannah at least once and maybe an area plantation. Have a great ride and keep the shiny side up. :D

The ''Dragons Tail'' is maybe 2 hours north...l hear its a crazy ride...lf you have LOTS of money buzz on down to Jarrett Rifles in Jackson SC.. He claims to make the 'worlds most accurate hunting rifle'.. l think they start around $6000. Thirty minutes away is Augusta Ga.. Home of the ''Masters'' You wont see much tho. A few years ago they put green curtained gates up to all the entrances, so you cant even see in anymore...The club has bought up about everything around too..Neighborhoods, Apartment complexes, shopping centers, even some churches..
0nly 3 hours away is CHARLESTON.. ''The Holy City''.. Set on a peninsula where the Ashley and Cooper Rivers meet to form the Atlantic Ocean.. l think its the most beautiful city in North America...Home of Fort Sumter..

Coming to South Carolina and NOT seeing Charleston would be like going to Egypt and miss a visit to the Pyramids
