Egg Prices...

I have no clue about the price of eggs or anything other grocery item. My wife made me a list and sent me out shopping once in our 52 years of marriage, this far. When i got home she looked at the list and I had it all then she looked at the impulse buys and ok. That was it she never again let me loose in a grocery store. In fact, I am seldom allowed to accompany her, especially, if they have a bakery with donuts. She is a great cook and baker (my waistline prooves it) but the doesn't do donuts or chocolate eclairs. On the bright side I get bacon and eggs every day for breakfast.

We go thru a dozen a week. I like hard boiled eggs as a snack. Couple days ago I made my famous Montreal seasoned venison cheese burgers with a fried egg on top. $3 or $7 we will still buy eggs. C'mon it's $4 a week.

$2.99 for 18 count at Kroger. That was with coupon that saved a $1. Highest was the same count for just over $9 this past winter. Local chain eatery I was in earlier this week was still charging a $.39 surcharge on each egg ordered to as a temporary measure do to the high cost of eggs. Guess they're gonna milk that til the cows come hope. In protest I had biscuits and gravy!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Biscuits and Gravy. One of my favorites, haven't had it in several years though.

Two fond memories of my mom; when I was a wee lad she would make me a Chuckie egg with fingers. She would dampen slices of bread as to not soak up too much grease, fry them in bacon grease and cut them into strips. She would put a soft boiled egg in an egg cup, cut the top off and I would dip the fingers into the runny yolk.

I loved her Scotch eggs. Ruthie makes them.

Bloody marvelous they are.
Eggywegs with lomticks of toast.

Washed down with a glass of velocette from the Korova Milk Bar.

I was cured alright...

OK, now we have egg prices out of the stratosphere, why is OJ stupid money? I was in two stores yesterday and left both without juice. Not happening at $8-$8.50 a jug.

Then there is soda. The stores here seem to think it is up there with premium gas. Fortunately, I stocked up at the beginning of spring when the prices were sensible.
As a Floridian I can tell you our citrus industry has taken a huge hit these past several years. First off, the land iss more valuable to developers than being used for citrus, then we had severe bouts of citrus greening and citrus canker that the state tried to control by cutting down and burning everyone's orange trees - even the ones in folks' backyards - whether they liked it or not. Then we had a few hurricanes which spread the diseases faster than they could isolate and eradicate them. I can remember when we moved into our current house there were production groves at both ends of our street, plus everyone had an orange tree or six in their yards. These days, no more... All gone.

Now we get a lot of our citrus from Brazil, which the tariffs and threats of tariffs have caused the prices to sky-rocket.

Oh well, eggs and orange juice may be expensive, but at least we got $1 a gallon gas...

Wait, WHAT???

We have noticed the beef prices skyrocketing. Gotta give my wife credit she always checks the mgr special when she goes to the store and if she finds it we eat it that day. She has recently gotten some T bones and NY strips at 1/2 price. The packages are usually large 4 - 6 steaks we cook some and freeze some as well.
