I recently acquired model 18-3, manufacture date of 1969. It is nice and tight and functions perfectly. However the ejector rod is marked as if someone attempted to remove it with a pair of pliers. Two questions: Where can I get a replacement for the ejector rod? How do you suggest I go about removing the old rod since someone obviously had trouble before?

Thanks, Merv

Thanks very much to diamonback68. I have purchased the new rod from Numrich and am ready to replace the old one. Is there anything else I should be aware of?

Only that you don't make the same mistake the other guy did.:D You can use a piece of old belt leather inside the jaws of a regular pair of pliers wrapped around the knurling of the rod to remove the old and replace the new rod. Don't squeeze too hard, it's a hollow tube.

A new extractor rod should be a few thousandths too long to allow fitting. Check this before trying to close the cylinder by pressing the center pin by placing the cylinder on a hard, flat surface. The center pin should be flush with, or a few thousandths above, the end of the extractor rods at the front end. If it is recessed at all the rod needs to be shortened until the pin is flush or above.

If you put the cylinder into the gun and close it before you check this the cylinder could be hard to re-open because the center pin cannot push the locking bolt fully out of engagement, and then you will be asking how to get it open!
