If you are not hiding in the cave, you must have heard more and more GOP now backing other controversial stuff ( g** "m*rri*ge" ), it is just a matter of time for many GOPs to support NY style gun control and mandatory registration, these politicians are reading the sentiment of voters (who are less and less Americans), of course no one is better than Harry Reid in this game.
With the demographic change (check what Senates are doing now: immigration reform, etc) , democrats will dominate the political landscape for the decades to come. These comments come from a politician who was a golden boy of NRA for half century and he is ready to support gun-control. His wife (who had awful experience with gun/home violence, you think she will be pro gun??) is going to run senate race next year. Her stepson was a genuinely affable/likeable person who is always pro 2A, yet he also agrees with the above assessment!

I agree there is a fundamental change occurring among the populous that is fundamentally affecting the republican and democratic parties. Conservatism does not allow (traditionally) for its base to stray too far from its core founding/core principles; hence it's name "conservatism." The Democratic Party is able to adjust their principles to the popular vote and adapt to progressive thinking. With a larger majority of this country pushing for equality and "freedom" (one's own freedom is different for each individual) the republicans/conservatives are being left behind and governing policies are becoming more progressive. Are we headed for a better US of A? I'm not sure but I want equal rights for US citizens regardless of religious belief and I want our constitution upheld. Things can change for the better but there is no popular common ground between the two extremes. With this, I do think the 2nd amendment is in danger of interpretation by the ruling party/idealism as it has been in the past.

With stricter laws passing in NY, IL, CA, MD, CT, CO (used to be red state) yet more gun-friendly laws passing in AL, OK, GA, SC, etc, the country is on its course to split into two in the next 20-50 years!!!

I really want to contribute here, but I was recently warned by one of the moderators that this site does not tolerate political discussion. Have any of you fellas received a similar notice?

Not me but talk about the 2nd amendment is inherently political. I could see if you were talking about political parties only you might get a warning. Make it relate to the topic and you shouldn't have any issues (I hope).

I've had seventy-five years to see waves crest and break in this country, and have ceased to be much of an alarmist or pessimist. I never have qualified as a halfway-decent conspiracy theorist.

The Constitution has withstood assaults for the entire history of the nation, from administrations of all stripes. Nobody has succeeded in destroying it yet, and I very much doubt that the people will let it happen anytime soon.

I emphatically do not live in a cave, but I'm too old to panic easily anymore. This too shall pass.

I can assure you that many have. ;)

FOCUS.
Yes, gun rights are a political issue.
That does not mean we have to discuss liberalism, conservatism, gay rights, welfare/entitlement programs, economic issues, or Obamacare.
FOCUS.
We gave you instructions:
Sticky: READ this > HOW to use the 2A Forum

You might note the OP is enjoying three days off to ponder the subject.
Points DO accumulate!
Many former members are banned forever because they did not ponder it hard enough. ;)
