Originally from AZ and I bought it early 80s. It had a sad 360 in it,which I replaced with a 1969 428CJ out of a friends rolled over Mustang.

It was the fastest "cattle" truck around. Mud flaps and all.Lots of great memories with it.

Ford 9" 3:70 Trac-Lok differential and Ford Toploader 4 speed replaced the original "3 on the tree". I put a 1979 F150 disc brake front end on it as the stock drums weren't adequate.

True sleeper. Sure did surprise many as it would run a 12.75 at 126mph on good rubber.

Rust never sleeps.. and I retired it to the back yard in the early 90s, to salvage the drivetrain some day.

Well..that day has come. Dragged it out with the backhoe and will bring it in to be dismantled.

Sure wish it was new again..but to restore it would cost 4 times what it would be worth when done.

Plus I'm not getting any younger... :). (although I may just take the rusty body off and do something strange with the remains....)

Cursed Rust

I have given up on numerous good vehicles due to rust. I had a '66 Comet, built up 390 4 spd top loader, floorboard rusted out.
66 F-100 352 granny gear 4 speed cab mounts and floorboards gave way.
I hope you can find another vehicle to put that 428 CJ in, they are a powerhouse.

Had to put some tires on it so it would roll again. Just happen to have 4 off a Prius. How ironic.

The big mill looks good in there, even covered it debris. Still had coolant in it..but it's locked up. I'll pull the plugs and see if some juice will free it.

Do what you need to despite the pain.
The tenor of the local car show has changed to where I no longer see a blanket on the grass with everything from auto glass, lenses, radio knobs, window cranks, name plates or letters and every other pieced out part spread out for all to see.
I admired the folk that had the time, patience and place to work to strip parts and offer to those who searched.

There's folks that will pay pretty decent money for that '69 428 CJ, if it's an original block and 428 CJ heads. I had a '69 Mach I R code 428 CJ back in the early to mid 90's. Had the drive train totally rebuilt and it ran like a scalded dog.

Unfortunately I had to sell it for a business investment that made more sense at the time. Wish I still had that car.

Sorry for the loss of your truck. :(:(

Sorry to see that fine truck fade away. I've got a '71 F100 4X4 that's slowly meeting the same fate. Still good for firewood getting, though. I'm getting a little too old for non-power steering, but do love that truck.

Tow Mater has nothing on that pup. You sure did get every bit of service life out of that old Ford. Good advice here, that powerplant is worth some bank, rusty, locked up, whatever. Coupled with that tranny, there's a fellow out there somewhere with an old Ford muscle car just drooling for the opportunity to bring that big block home and give it new life.

Great thread!!

I had a 1967 F 250 with a 300 CI straight six, floor shift with granny gear, positive track rear end and basically nothing else. I installed an 8 track player and a AM/FM radio. I drove that old truck for over 30 years and hauled several hundred loads of firewood for myself and others. I sold it to a friend over 20 years ago. He had it rebuilt and still uses it. I'd like to get it back.

Nose off. Bed floor and sides off. My plan is to keep the frame a roller and pull the cab off (scrap it after stripping off the sellable bits) and pull the engine/transmission. Motor still frozen,I believe it will need to go on the engine stand and be torn down. May rebuild it..(and sell it) or may just parts it out..will depend on how the bores look. Al is supervising. :)

That Holley is going to need some rejuvenation. Is the intake steel or aluminum?

As an aside, about 40 years ago I had a 61 F-100 with the straight 6 and 3 on the tree. GREAT truck. Sold it to an Army buddy who restored it. That's one I wish I had back, after it was redone.

I'm afraid that Holley is too far gone and only good for bits and pieces this point. I may do something "artistic" with it..like paint it gold. It's a 4780 so an 800cfm unit. Lots of choices available if I need to replace it.

My eBay sell table is getting covered!

Found the old trucks key....however it does not seem to work the ignition or either door lock, so it can't be the right one. The 3 locks are not frozen as I can feel the tumblers moving..but this key isn't correct. Hmm..

Wonder where that correct key went to...maybe I'll ask that guy nobody..
