Just got this from my good friend at Altamont Grips and thought I’d share it. This 3” Python and OEM-type 3rd gen grips are prototypes. I believe the engraving is now available, but not sure if the grips will become a catalogued item. I’ve never been a big fan of engraved guns, but I appreciate the unique hybrid scale/floral pattern and depth. To my eye it’s much better than the current, cheesy Colt factory engraving.

Man--I hope Altamont makes those grips a permanent catalog item--they are so much nicer looking than the other aftermarket ones out there. Deer Hollow grips are nice too but you'll pay just as much as a genuine set.

That is absolutely gorgeous! I know many of us downplay engraved guns but I have yet to meet the person who down deep does not want one or more. The pride of ownership feeling is like none other. Enjoy it in good health. And yes, if that beauty were mine I would shoot it.

Beautiful! Safe queen or barbeque gun?

Not sure. I already have and carry a regular 3”. I grabbed this because my buddy made me a good deal. However, since it doesn’t have any real collector value, I’ll likely shoot and carry it occasionally; BBQs are a distinct possibility.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing it.

I like engraved guns, and I like yours, but I do have a question...

How "deep" or pronounced is the engraving?

I've looked at Altamonts offerings on auction sites and I've thought hard about buying one of their similar pattern 1911s,but...the above question has stopped me to date. If it's lightly lasered I'd REALLY have to love the pattern. Yours looks to be deep and well defined.

Is it?

Please advise.

P. S. I'm heading to my FFL today to pick up my own 3" Python. 🙂

Really nice. Didn't think I'd like the factory engraving but I do. I assume these are "Python II's" vs original guns?
The only gun that I've had fully engraved is an old Hi Power that had thousands of rounds through it. Sent it to a nationally known engraver for 100% coverage, then satin nickel plating with black fill. Came out really nice and I'm not afraid to shoot it. I just take off the hand carved bone dragon grips and put on the rubbers since the bones already have cracks (but look good, IMO).

It’s definitely not lightly lasered, it’s deep, 3 dimensional.

The best looking revolver on the planet with an outstanding engraving pattern! Maybe there isn't an asteroid headed for Earth after all!

They did a nice job on that gun. Looks good; thanks for letting us enjoy it, too!
Funny about that term Bar-Be-Que gun. In Pittsburgh, the bar b que gun is what ever gun you can use to spray & pray.
