I picked this up yesterday afternoon. I want to give special thanks to Richard, (RKmesa). I have never owned any engraved guns. When I first saw it, I believed it to be hand engraved, but to be sure, I reached out to him. Even though I was a complete stranger, he eagerly responded to my inquiry and confirmed it was a piece worth acquiring. Richard's enthusiasm, knowledge and passion for engraved works is contagious. It gave me the confidence to make the purchase. I also have a question. Does anyone know why the orange label would be placed over the original white one.

Here are two additional photos, and two comments. The 4th edition notes that the CEN serial range are early guns, and that some are laser etched in the window with "tested for +p+". This one does have the etching. Grips are from AJAX. Cost was $1100.00 OTD.

Congratulations on a beautiful addition to the family

That is a very tastefully engraved revolver

Thank you, Sir.

If I may ask is the gun in your avatar a model 649 1st Issue? The shop I obtained the 640 from has one factory engraved model 649 that is so marked in a presentation case.

Nice, and you went to the right source for information. The problem with these, engraved guns that is, is that they're like potato chips; nobody can have just one. Great price too!

LOL, Thank you, Sir.

I guess that depends on how deep one's pockets are. I tend to gravitate towards the nicest guns I can get for the money and still be able to shoot them. That said, I do have some safe queens too, but not to many.

Smith & Wesson selected 25 of the first day of production 649s between serial number 13 and 58 to be Class A+ engraved.

This 649 is the 39th produced and wears some of the nicest African Elephant Ivories I have seen on a snubby

There was also a run of 100 pieces of the model 649 that had some embellishment to them but I do not own an example of it

As I mentioned above here is #45. Since I am not in the position to purchase both I shared its existence with Richard, and I asked the vendor to set it aside for him. The gentleman kindly did so.
