Hello. I picked up this S&W Blackie Collins knife at a swap meet today and can`t find another like it on the net. I found several non engraved ones and was hoping someone could tell me about this one.
Quantity and value would sure help. It goes well with my Blackie Collins Survival Series. Thanks a lot for any help or input.

Starting in 1973 Smith and Wesson made 20,000 of the Texas Ranger Bowie knives serial numbered TR1 through TR20000. My hunch is that you have a 1 of 1 that someone commissioned Shaw-Leibowitz to engrave for them. The value of the knife with case usually averages around $150, the Shaw-Leibowitz engraving probably adds a significant premium. Congrats on a nice knife.

The etching looks identical in style to a series of Schrade Bowie commemorative knives. These knives were etched by Aurum Etchings in the Dallas area, they also etched a lot of Buck knives over the years. I have the Gen Custer commemorative model that was given to my father by a friend of the family. He was an independent jeweler and occasionally did work for Aurum Jewelry, which is how he came to acquire the knife. The sheath is not original.

I've not seen the Texas Ranger model with an etched scene before. Just the dates and serial #.

Here are some interesting reads on the subject.

Thanks for both replies. That should be enough info for me to continue my research. Thanks again.
