Equalizer?

Question for you all. I have the Shield Plus as well as a M&P 2.0 Compact with a 4” barrel (which is deemed my home defense pistol). I’m kinda wanting the Equalizer, but would have to sell one of my current guns to make it happen. Should I sell the 2.0 and have two guns with compatible magazines (the Shield Plus and Equalizer), or sell the shield Plus and end up with the Equalizer and the 2.0 Compact? Pros and cons? BTW, I don’t really need the light rack feature of the Equalizer (but I like it). Also, would there be that much of a difference between having the Equalizer vs the 2.0 Compact for home defense? The difference in slide length is only 1/2 “

I'd keep the 2.0 compact for home defense. It is easier to shoot a larger pistol accurately. Under stress you would need any advantage you could get.

First, you didn't say which Shield Plus you have? The barrel length of the Plus might play into your decision. Actually, the Equalizer is less than 3/8 of an inch shorter than a 4 inch barrel, so not much difference there.

For me, having compatible magazines would be the tie breaker. Once you get use to having a few of the 15 round magazines, you'll wonder how S&W got away with limiting the 2.0 to 8 rounds. The 15 round mags also improve the grip length for most shooters.

The Equalizer is a good shooting pistol and don't forget it comes optic ready. I have all three, but would sell the 2.0 if I wanted to get rid of one.

If you just want the extra rounds that the Equalizer has just buy a 15 round mag for the Shield Plus. I have the Plus and have large hands and having a full purchase on the Shield Plus when using the 15 round magazine really helped me with the smaller frame of the Shield Plus.

Personally, I have instituted a policy against selling any of my firearms, so as to learn from the mistakes of others whom I have seen online making regretful posts in regards of impulsively selling firearms to fund the purchase of others.

Honestly, think of how often you see someone expressing feelings of regret or even outright sorrow over their decision to sell or trade a firearm for another. It's a disturbingly common sentiment which I would rather avoid, so after almost a decade as an active firearms enthusiast, I have resisted the urge to sell any of my firearms, and I can say that in all that time I have never once regretted my decision. Sure, I've been tempted on occasion, but I never once gave in and I'm glad that I didn't, because I know that I would have inevitably come to regret it otherwise.

The Shield Plus is the micro compact with a 3.1 inch barrel. The 2.0 Compact has two 15 rd mags. The Shield Plus is small and would be easiest to carry, and the 2.0 is such a good gun it would be hard to part with. Tough decision. The Equalizer just seems so awesome. I guess I’m wondering if the Equalizer would be kinda comparable to the 2.0. Does the Equalizer shoot similar to the 2.0?

If what you have now is working well, I would be hesitant to get rid of either one.

I would go completely different direction.

I would keep what you have. Don’t sell a thing. Then save money for something different. Like a revolver. 4” maybe 6” in 357 mag which allows a completely different experience. Completely different enjoyment. And dual ammo flexibility for 38 special as well as 357 mag.

Once you have this revolver. You may find that it would become your home defense weapon. And then you may consider selling the M&P 2.0

I just think when the **** hits the fan. And ammo availability becomes in short supply. It is important to have guns that are of different caliber so that you have more flexibility of ammo that comes available you have a weapon that can use it. As any gun without ammo is a very expensive “rock” or paper weight!

I have shifted my frame of reference. Instead of buying more guns. I am spending the money for ammo and training. And maybe some key spare parts for the guns I have.

Keep the shield plus you will have more mags for both pistols. I have the equalizer it's a great pistol that never had a miss fire in over 1000 rounds.

Do you guys think the 2.0 Compact with the 4” barrel is pretty similar to the Equalizer in terms of shootability? I know th e 2.0 barrel is a little longer but not much.

If I were you I'd pick up a 15 round magazine and try that with the shield plus first. That combination so far is my favorite S&W offers out of the entire M&P line. 3.1" barrel and a full size grip. It shoots just like my full size 2.0 but just feels and carries so much better. If you dont need a lighter rack I'm not sure why you'd choose the equalizer.

I just figured that if the equalizer was similar in size to the 2.0 compact with the 4 inch barrel, having the cross compatibility of the magazines between the equalizer and the shield plus would be nice

I really like my Equalizer with a Holosun EPS Carry 6 MOA green dot. It is just the right size for a carry pistol IMO. It is accurate and reliable and the thumb and grip safety provide peace of mind when stuffing a pistol down my pants.

Never sell a firearm that you actually like. Only sell those that don’t meet up with your expectations.

Probably the best thing about the Equalizer is that it is single action and has a hammer. My 9mm EZ has a very good trigger pull compared to any of the striker fired plastic pistols.
