Does anyone know what year S&W began placing emblems in the grips ? I just aquired a 1 1/2 with ivories and there is no Id on the grips except for numbers inside to match the frame #...Local "Expert" mumbled "well they can"t be factory they got no emblems" I showed him a photo of cased 1 1/2 with similar grips that had just sold for large money at auction and got no reply.... Thank You all for any info.........

Since the factory stopped shipping the 1 1/2 centerfire in 1892 and the 1 1/2 rimfire in 1872, your 1 1/2 without medallions is proper. I askled Mike M who posted just above, and is a long time collector and very knowledgable, if he had ever seen a 1 1/2 with medallions. Of course, he said no but he has seen one with ivory. So, you have a relatively scarce variation of grips. Congratulations! The nice part is that you probably bought it at a slight reduction because the person who sold it thought it should be sporting medallions. Is it a rimfire or a centerfire. I would love to see pictures.
