Even a Blind Squirrel......

On wonders who was the idiot that sold it to the LGS?

Now see, I don't agree with that. Many old timers out there that bought guns new for less than the OP payed back in the days. Lots of them sat around for years and have no real value to the owners. Many don't even know what they have. Many still don't even know how to use the internet. And some simply don't care. And some think the gun store will be "fair" so trust what they say.

But a gun store is IN THE BUSINESS of SELLING GUNS! As in, that is the ONLY business they do. They make their living by buying and selling guns. I expect a business that specializes in guns to know how to type a model number into google. It's really that simple.

Congrats on a great score. My best scores come from a gun shop that refuses to sell online. More better for me!

That's a real beauty, you did extremely well. The down side is you can't go back in there and brag about it or they'll want a kiss after that screwin. I shouldn't talk, I picked up a 5" 27-2 a few years back for $279. Deals (steals) can still be found. :D

I say old chap, well done! This sort of thing allows me to sleep at night, sometimes I over pay and some times I get the deal. This in my mind sorta evens things out.

I paid $500 for one like it about a year ago and felt like I got a great deal. It is a blast to shoot.

Now, I'm jealous! That's a steal! That revolver is worth a good $550-$600.

Stop, thief! ;)

Nice catch!

Maybe a decade or two ago. These sell for a $1K+ all day long for a while now.

I don't think you could even find an N Frame in decent for $600 anymore, and certainly NOT a Lew Horton in excellent condition.

That was an early Christmas for you. Congratulations!
I agree with the others that it's value is in the 1K range.

They got the gun for next to nothing!

Exactly. A good friend of mine works in a gun shop near by. I cannot believe what the owner pays people who come in off the street for their guns. People come in selling guns they know nothing about and he offers them $100 or $200 for them. Old ladies who husbands have died, etc. It is really disgraceful.

It seems that way. Having operated as an FFL ('82-'95) for 13 years, I can tell you if you bring me a large cache of guns, I have to pay you TODAY out of operating funds. It's a 100% loss right now. Might take months or more just to recoup the outlay. Not saying it's right, just reality. Joe

Congratulations. The 44 Special is quickly becoming one of my favorite cartridges,
right up there with the 38 Special. I've owned a couple of S&W 44 Specials
(a 24-3 with a 4" barrel, box and papers, and a 624 with a 6" barrel) but had to sell
them during a period of "economic downturn." I don't miss many guns I've sold,
but man, I hated to sell that 24-3. You're going to really like that one.

I recently picked up a couple of Cimarron/Uberti 44 Specials.
They won't replace the S&W's, but they'll do for now.
