Ex KCPD RM

I would like to request a thread resurrection.

The gun in the first post actually passed through my hands and I had some questions about re-blueing marks/stamped dates. This was one of the 213/250 shipped in 1939 to the KCPD and it has the re-work star like most of them (except Bob's). It has a date stamped under the left stock of Jan. of '46 but it does not have a reblue mark such as R-B. It did have a ground off HBH on it which may have been the re-work. I took some pics of stamp marks and pins to see if it could be determined if it was definitely refinished. If it was re-finished by the factory, why would they have not stamped the R-B on it in the process?
This gun has a lot of wear on the finish which likely came as a result of the 2nd owner having carried it in his pocket (per the story) as an employee of the railroad. Must have been a big dude because I can't imagine carrying this heavy thing in my front pocket.

Respectfully submitted for your opinions,
Ed

Gentlemen, I have a former KCPD RM #59749, Reg #5159 that does not "appear" to have been refinished. A fellow member, Jerry (GLL) posted pics for me this past July showing this piece. Mike Priwer has looked it over and, I believe, come to the conclusion that it may well be an original finish - probably low 90% range. It shots like a dream and I love the long action of the trigger. While I haven't mastered the art of posting pics here, I would be happy to send individuals pics of the gun including the insides as it was taken apart for cleaning and inspection. Regards, Jerry

KCPD Non-Registered Magnum serial# 61959, shipped 7/3/1940, no factory service date or star. Not refinished.
Originally shipped with Baughman ramp front sight and magna grips, but these grips do not number to the gun.

John:
I am guessing here. Would that technically be a Baughman ramp base with a particular sight blade that has a (looks like) gold bead? I am not familiar enough with the Baughman ensemble. Your base looks just like the one I posted about which had King and Pat Pend stamped on it but has a different blade, one which looked like another ramp but was rounded at the muzzle end. Or perhaps it is exactly what you called it.

Ed, that's a King sight and base, you can see the "King Pat Pend" stamped on the right side of the base. It also has a white outline blade in the rear sight assembly, which is not mentioned in the S&W letter.
I'm guessing the front sight/rear blade were replaced by KC Police Dept. at some time while they had it.
