Does anyone know where the large numbers of police trade-in .40 SW99s are coming from? There seem to be a huge number of them out there so I would assume it's a either a large department or several departments getting rid of them.

I believe New Jersey State Police were issued SW99s. Several others were also but they're the biggest I know of.

Not to hijack the thread, but i thought the New Jersey State Police were issued Sig 228's?

Maybe now, but when they initally switched from P7 series HKs many years back, they special ordered a unique variant (I forget the details) SW99. The guns apparently performed somewhat less than admirably and they dumped them. These traded guns would have hit the market many years back. The current crop of trade-ins out there are coming from somewheres else.

I heard the P7s were destroyed.

My understanding is that SW99NJs can be identified by the lack of a decocker combined with the standard Walther AS trigger.

The NJSP SW99's were in 9mm, released about 6 years ago. replaced by Sig 229 9mm's I bought one the NJSP sw99's direct from S&W for $325, NIB. It had a decocker and normal sw99 trigger
