I've never been on facebook. I can't tell you why, I've just never gotten into it. The wife does and I will occasionally use her account to look for someone. Ocaaasionally.

I've been settling my father's estate for several months now and I used my wife's account to sell some vehicles. Even though I listed my name and phone number as a contact, she was bombarded with notifications, requests, etc.

We had an estate sale and there is still a lot of stuff left. I thought I would list some on facebook and try to sell it locally. Not wanting to trouble my wife this time, I decided to open my own facebook account.

My wife and I share an email address, so facebook would allow me to open a sub-account but not list on the marketplace. I deleted the sub-account, created a new email address and opened my own separate account. After three days, it was deemed to be 'in violation of community rules' or some such nonsense. I haven't even posted anything but now it's locked up waiting appeal.

Today, I listed some items on the marketplace via my wife's account (with her blessing). I checked other listings to see if facebook allowed knives-they do-many types. I posted three listings. The first was a set of Lord of the Rings knives with 15" blades. These are vicious looking. No problem. Second was a John Wayne Fighting Seabees knife with a 5" blade. No problem. Third was another John Wayne Flying Tigers knife with a 5" blade. This third knife set off 'weapons' warnings and has been frozen pending appeal.

I'm just about ready to take this stuff to the dump. I think this will be my first and last endeavor on facebook.

Thanks for the rant.

My wife and I have one for us both. I don't deal with it much except for Messenger to chat with the kids every once in a while. I call it Fakebook, as it seems everyone is all smiles all the time...

I appealed the 'weapon' designation and was denied...probably by AI. I was further notified that if I continued posting weapons for sell that my (wife's) account would be closed. So I deleted the other John Wayne knife but left the Lord of the Rings knives on there. Surely anyone including AI can see that they are fantasy knives-they have dull blades.

Meanwhile, the local BigBoyToys attached to FB has closed our membership.

It must be the war theme on the box, because there are butcher knives, camping knives, machetes, even auto knives on there.

I think I'm going to go back to ignoring them.

Have sold some stuff on Craig’s, Never sold on FB.
Belong to NM groups and some Military Groups on FB.
My AF Buddies are thinning out, Straphangers increasing.
The local mostly photo groups function just fine most of the time.
Then every so often I get a vicious response to what I think is a kind of cute picture. Not one that makes a statement, expresses any opinion, position. Like a funky house or a Feral Horse.
I was asking for it when I posted the rebuilt RT66 old school Trading Post.
It burned down, rebuilt with 1mil of Taxpayer money.
Is it a viable Trading Post Location? No!
Can be used for what? It been repurposed as the Santo Domingo Pueblo Technology Center.

I concur. This is the 21st Century.

I have a FB account. I use it to touch base with family, friends and old business contacts. I have great success with Facebook Marketplace.

I use several social media sites (of which this forum qualifies as one) to my advantage.

I am way past cave drawings.

I did FB a SHORT while to search old flames, to no success. I then used it to post links to informative philosophical speech for the benefit of others not so exposed.. FB shut me down because I did not follow the politics of the social crowd. Never again.

That’s kinda creepy. Lol

I’m apparently the youngster here at 55. I do not and will not have a FB account. I’ve used my wife’s to buy and sell a few things in the past. Why not try Craigslist? ……… 15 yrs or so ago I was picking up a new refrigerator in my truck for a friend. Afterwards we were drinking a beer and his wife was telling me how great FB was and that she had over 100 friends already. I asked her how many of those 100 friends would help move a refrigerator on Saturday morning???? Crickets !

I opened one in 09 because my kids had accts.I don’t think I’ve posted anything there more than a few times a year in the last ten years, but it’s fun following various interest groups. There’s a gazzilion forums for whatever your interests are and a number of them are incredibly funny (especially the Brit’s )

I have social media accounts but I've never posted anything. I've DMed some folks, but never posted anything publicly. The main reason I have them is follow specific accounts.

As far as Facebook and linkedin, I have no interest. I'd rather be on a forum.

Facebook has reconnected me with a lifetime of old class mates, acquaintances and friends. It is the most used marketplace tool in the rural area i live. Can also keep track of family, especially being travel limited. Yes it can certainly be a pita and intrusive, but am way past caring.
