This pic shows what is listed as a "factory front night site".. How does this work as a nite site? I dont see how it's any different than a regual black ramped site?? Thanks for explanation!!

If you could see the sight blade from the shooters' position, you would see there is a round glass vial that has been inserted into a hole made for it, sort of like a 'gold bead' blade, only the vial is recessed completely below the striations on the rear face of the sight. The vial holds, among other things, a small amount of a radioactive isotope called 'tritium' that makes the vial glow like it has a small light source inside.

Trijicon is one of the industry leaders in tritium night sights for many kinds of guns.

And only to add to what Buff already said.
The Tritium "sapphire" or "insert" or "vial" whatever is the purveyors way of describing it, will be a viable source of illumination for between 9 and 11 years. Don't expect to see anything more than what a white dot type highlighted front sight would look like, during normal lighting. It's specialty area is low/no light. And they will not be visible as an assist till then.
