Fail to feed

I have 2000 rounds through mine in 3 weeks. I get fail to feed every 100 or so rounds where the round gets jamed in the front of the mag. Sticks upwards and is a bear to wiggle out. Happens more with Armscor 36 gr HV but also with Mimimags and Federal #730. Everything I shoot is hollow point. Should I expect this?

Some other 22LR semiautomatics I have warn against using hollow point or light (36gr) ammo due to possible cycling/feed issues. I know of no such warning with the 15-22, but it could be a factor.

I've mostly run Aguila Super Extra or CCI AR Tactical (both 40gr copper round nose) through mine without any issues. I did run about 50 Federal Gameshok (38gr hollow point) through without issue but that was a one-time deal.

It could also be a mag issue. When does it usually happen? Mid-mag? Last round?

I would vote for a week mag spring. How does the feed ramp look? Maybe try polishing it with some 1,200 grit emery cloth.

How are you loading the magazines?

• A) Are you pulling down the follower just enough to insert 1 round, then releasing the follower (repeat x 25)?
  
  B) Or are you pulling the follower down far enough to insert more than a single round?

If you are doing 'B', it could be rimlock.

I agree that the problem is magazine related. Could easily be rim lock, simple to avoid. Could also be wax buildup in the feed throat area of the magazine. The magazines need to be disassembled and cleaned periodically.

Thanks everyone.What I'm getting is that it's not happening to most. I keep things very clean have multiple mags and know how how to load them. I'm thinking its the hollow points. I have a lot of them so I won't be able to do a long term test for a year. I may polish the feed ramp slightly and bring a pair of plyers with me to wiggle them out wben it happens.

Update - Trying to pay closer attention to loading the mags. At the range today, 500 rounds and 3 FTF. Much better.

I bought a box of 525 Federal 36 grain cartridges with my new 15-22. I mounted my red dot sight and went to sight it in without cleaning it first. I had too many FTF's to count on that first range time. I got a chance to take it down, clean and lube it but the Federal's still didn't cooperate. I had a brick of 40 grain Blazer's that have a more rounded nose that I decided to give a try. I shot 65 of the Blazer's without a single FTF. I will save the Federal's for my 34 year old Browning Lever Action.

I just purchased an M&P 15-22 and took it out ot the range yesterday. The rifle is hella fun but the mags I wouldn't give 2 cents for. Numerous FTF's about every 3-10 rnds with CCI Blazer ammo. The rounds tend to nose dive in the 25 rnd mags and jam. One mag jammed so badly I had to disassemble it and the spring base flew out to be lost to the dirt. From reading the forums it sounds like it's a hit and miss thing with the mags. Some have all sorts of issues like me and others have little problems at all. My young nephew loved the rifle. It was his first time shooting. I loved it as well. With the flip up magpul sights it was dead accurate. Just the magazine issues.

Sounds like you might be pulling the follower down all the way and dumping in rounds all willy-nilly (SP?).

Pay attention to loading the mags correctly and see if your problem improves.

Read the manual and load the magazines the way it says. Pull the follower down far enough to insert one round only. Release and repeat. You'll be MUCH happier.

Or buy one of the McFadden loaders. I don't really find mine much quicker, but it is reliable.
