My 1 year old 15-22 has just started to have a feeding problems. Can't run a mag without having FTF issues. The bullets are not entering the chamber, they seem to be hitting the top of the chamber with the nose of the bullet and getting caught there. Other times the round in the magazine is pointing straight up and stuck in the mags forward lips. Never had these issues before and the frequency of them has reduced the enjoyment of the weapon.

Ideas?

Did you try several brands of ammo? Gun is clean I assume? Have you tried different mags?

Usually this is because the magazine is releasing the cartridge too early. That points to a feed lip issue. Like jwalts27 said, it could be that the feed lips aren't compatible with the .22 ammo you are using, if you have switched types.

To troubleshoot, make sure you use real good ammo, such as CCI or Norma. During this test, I'd stay away from hollow points.

Since the problem just cropped up, I'd guess the bolt & chamber need a good cleaning. Take apart the bolt assembly, clean thoroughly & lightly lube. Put a drop or two of lubricant on the rails. Once the bolt is back together, make sure the bolt slides on the rails effortlessly. Don't forget the chamber. Many of us use picks to get into all the nooks & crannies.

If you use a bore snake to clean the barrel, put a straw over the ejector. If it gets bent, that can cause failures like you describe.

Also, make sure you don't have a broken mag follower spring. I have seen it cause bullets nose dive or stick straight up depending on how it broke.

I had this problem once and it ended being a mag issue. The mag body had started to separate at the top and some of the polymer had been worn out at the feed lips from inserting rounds. This caused the top round to flip up under pressure. New mag solved the problem. Let us know what you find.

Guys. This maybe doesn't pertain to this exactly. My rifle will feed the round, it fires and reloads a new round but will not be able to fire again. I will have to use the charging handle to reload a new round. It may fire correctly for a few rounds and then it will repeat again. Need some help

Have you been playing with the hammer spring?
Have you lubed the daylights out of the FCG?
Have you put lube on the bolt body?

Any of these can cause the bolt not to reset the trigger.

More info. The first time this happened the gun was dirty, so I blamed that. Cleaned it up (it wasn't that dirty) and check the mags for dirt and what not. Went out again and the same thing. I have been using CCI Tactical 22s, CCI mini Mags, Win M22s.

This happens with both mags that I own, both are the same age (new when I bought them). I will pick up a new one and see if that fixes the problem.

Below is a pic of the two mags... I will try to clean them more, but I don't see any wear or separation here.

I also took the mags apart and cleaned them but here too, nothing seemed wrong, dirty or broken.

Well worn.... Dam, only about 5K rounds through them. Oh well, I was going to pick up a new one anyway.. so I just might get two.

Try sticking to Norma Tac22. I use that pretty exclusively and have zero wear on my mags. The lube on them prevents any wear.

That Norma Tactical is amazing ammo, however, is super gooey... probably good for the firearm/mags though.

Update:

I received two brand new mags and took the gun out to test. As way of back ground I have shot all types of ammo through it before and rarely had any issues. From the cheap bucket of bullets to the CCI mini Mags, no real issues. So yesterday I tried two type of ammo that I have used the most in the past without any issues. The bucket of bullets (Rem Cheapo stuff and the CCI Mini Mags). Shooting the Rems first the feeding problem went away, but I had a high number of smoke stack rounds using this ammo. This never happened before or if it did it was rare. I switched over to the CCI and they ran ok, one or two smoke stacks in 4-5 mags. All mags were loaded to 25 and my rate of fire was slow to fast. The smoke stacking occurred randomly but was more frequent with the Rem ammo.

So it seems I have fixed on type of problem and now have a new issue. The gun was fully cleaned including removing the barrel and the ejector is in the same condition as when I got the gun. It shouldn't be this unreliable but it is. Any ideas?
