My local Sportsman's Club, The Big Piney Sportsman's Club located near Houston Missouri just got a new Falling Plate Rack. Today at the 2-Gun Combat Match we had it set up for the first time. This is a blast!!!
For the Schedule of Events
Big Piney Sportsmans Club
We set the match up to fire 2 strings of 6 rounds each at 10 yards. Then move back to 15 yards and again fire 2 strings of 6 rounds each. For a total of 24 rounds total. OR 1/2 box of ammunition per match entry for the non-reloaders. This lets the shooter get 2 match entries out of a 50 round box of ammunition.
We start the match with gun in hand resting over a Canvas Shot Sack Sand Bag on the table top, about like a Bowling Pin Match. At the Buzzer you engage each Plate with one round each. Scoring is like IDPA, Time PLUS Penalties. Add up the times from all 4 runs, then multiply the total number of standing plates by 5 and add this penalty number to the total time for the Match Score.
The Entry Fee is $5 per entry. Enter as many times as you like.
We can even do this in the dark. We have a bank of pole mounted lights on this range for nite time operation.
The Falling Plate Rack Match has the same Divisions as our Defensive Pistol Match.
CDP Custom Defensive Pistol (All Steel 45acp's like 1911's)
SSP Stock Service Pistol (Combat Tupper Ware)
SSR Stock Service Revolver (centerfire revolvers loaded with 6 rounds only)
Rimfire both revolvers and semi-auto's
BUG Back Up Gun. (They only fire 5 shots at 5 plates per string)
I shot my S&W 617 in Rimfire.
I shot my 1911 Colt in CDP.
I shot my S&W 64 in SSR.
I made 2 runs with my S&W 638 in BUG.
The only issue we had was factory hardball hitting hard enough to shock down an additional plate. We are hoping some rubber on the edge of the reset arm where the plate falls, and some on the contact point between the reset arm and frame will fix this without adjusting the plates for a harder angle, as this would take rimfire out of the game.
If you are close to Houston Missouri, come on out. The next Defensive Pistol Match will be next Saturday 4 June 2011 starting around 9:00 AM and finishing when everyone is done. No Match Snobs at our range, come on out, and have a good time with a great bunch of guys, and a gal or two.
For the Defensive Pistol Match you will need at a minimum: a holster, 2 magazines, or one speed loader, hearing and eye protection, 50 rounds per entry, and you can probably wing it from that point. First entry $10 all additional entries $5.
Family Rate $10 first entry and $5 all additional entries for all family members.
Come on out, and be prepaired to have a great day.
