I seen one yesterday at the LGS. He had the 63 and a 617. Went back today and got the 63-5. For a J frame or any frame for that matter this little revolver has the absolute best trigger I've ever felt in a factory Smith. I don't know if someone at Smith took extra time with this one or what but it is fantastic. The trigger is so smooth and light it is unbelievable.

Has anyone else handled a new 63?

A huge Thank You to S&W and the Gunsmith who put this one together.

Is the hyper velocity ammo that is coming out lately OK to shoot in these revolvers? Apparently some gunmakers are saying not to shoot this stuff in their firearms. Usually it is no big deal not to shoot the hyper stuff but in this day and age sometimes all that is available is the hyper or high end target. I'm not that good of shot to warrant the high end ammo.

My 63-5 has a very good trigger. Considering a heavy hammer blow is needed on rimfire, I'm impressed that Smith could achieve a quality trigger with a small frame.
Wouldn't hesitate to shoot any ammo from it. Ammo issues with 22 usually concern whether it will cycle in a semiauto.

A model 63 should be able to safely digest any commercially available .22 rim fire on the market. Remember it's built on the same frame as the 5-shot .38s.

I have a Model 63 and agree it is a great 22. I can't say enough about this revolver since I think the op has said it all.

The all stainless steel Mod 63 should digest any 22 LR on the market without any problems. If it is afflicted with the tight chambers that many S&W 22's are, (difficult to eject after more than 3-4 cylinder-fulls are shot) it can be remedied by having someone run a SAAMI standard finishing reamer through the chambers. I don't believe the newer guns have been afflicted with this as much as the older S&W were.

I picked one up from a forum member late last year. I passed it on to a great friend who has been searching for one for his wife. Since it was a used gun, he asked that I run some rounds through it. I was VERY impressed with the trigger and really dig the 3" barrel profile. Sweet little guns. Kinda want one for myself even though I already have three K Frame .22s.

The slightly used 63-5 I picked up about a year ago also has a very nice smooth action, I'm also impressed how light and smooth the action is for a completly stock/factory pistol.

Purchased mine new in 2012, agree with everything being said about this great little firearm.

But now you have to get a 60-15, the perfect match.

I prefer the standard rubber grips over the wood I am showing in this picture.

My wife owns one of the Model 63's with a 5" barrel. It handles the best of any of the multiple revolvers we have in the house. I find that I can shoot it better than my 617. The only problem I have is that it virtually disappears in my hands.

I also have the 60-15 3" and it's another great shooter.
