Test pistol 9mm Shield. Purpose of procedure, to simulate firing 500 to a 1000 rds. quickly without hurting hand or fingers. Equipment needed, one length of 3/4" ID. PVC pipe 12" to 18" long.
PROCEDURE:
Rack slide to rear and lock.
Place barrel of pistol in the pipe all the way up to the slide.
Grip pistol in the normal ready grip with strong hand, use the support hand to hold the pipe inline with the slide. While maintaining that position place the other end of the pipe against a non slip surface. I sit in a chair and place the open end of the pipe down on the rug, or while standing use a mouse pad up against the wall or door etc.
Hold down the slide lock with your strong hand thumb push pistol into the pipe maintaining alignment with pistol and pipe and cycle the slide by pushing the pistol as fast as you wish.
To work the trigger release slide lock and only cycle the slide enough to cock it, fire and repeat as fast as you wish.
Now you can go to the range with a properly broken in pistol.
Works for me I hope this helps.

None of the 8 S&W pistols I own needed this to work/function 100% out of the box. So I just enjoy taking them to the range and shooting them :-) Cleaning and lubing them per the owners manual does wonders, though. (3-Shields, 3-FS M&Ps and 2-SD/VE)

?????

I just load mags and go to the range. No issues ever with modern guns. Had some with old surplus guns of questionable quality but I don't count those

Reminds me of a certain 6.8spc web site where the standard reply for any feeding of ejection issue is to cycle the bolt 1000 times in a dry gun before complaining about it.

Maybe i'm missing something here, but the first thing I do (after cleaning of course) with a new gun is hit the range and run a bunch of ammo thru it. In fact i rarely dry fire anything. I want the full experience while practicing, and if a gun actually has to be 'broken in' it's gonna be with a few boxes of ammo not anything else.

just my .02

You left out the part about removing all lube from the gun and putting toothpaste in the action before working it 1000 times. Heard this prescription from a shooter when I was still on active duty. Never tried it. Thought it was strange.

Ive broken in 5 smith striker fired polly frame pistols. All with ammo. All are reliable and function great. I do dry fire maybe 4 or 5 times at the range just because it helps to go through the cadence. But live fire is where the fun is at!
