I want to give a big thank you to revolver_ph for one super nice mount for a Burris Fastfire III to my PowerPort. The fit was perfect and so much cleaner and lower than the Alchin mounts. I got it in the mail yesterday, assembled it with a dab o' blue Locktite and let it cure overnite. I took it to the range today to zero the red dot in and am very pleased with the results. The eyes ain't getting no younger and the FF helped a bunch.

0nly place they ''RRRING'' is L I N C O L N T O N

''flops'' are for Gainesville :-()

That's the Raptor Engineering mount? (ETA: Yep, revolver_ph is their forum handle.) I found mine just yesterday. (Misplaced as it arrived just as I was headed out for a long weekend kayak fishing in TN.... Actually bream fishing from a kayak. Jolly jokers!)

And discovered as well the FastFire II is happily mounted on a long running Govn't Model project, so went a-shopping. Only to be thrown completely off track by an "old" RSR 657 ".41 Magnum Hunter", which is now on lay back.

Anyway, the new mount does seem nicer than the "does-all" Allchin mount with it's two movable (and easily losable) nylon locating pins. The R. E. mount is specifically for the FastFires, so there are four integral locating pins sculpted from the 6061 aluminum alloy. The "looky-looes" may notice some milling marks, but they're mostly on the underside and won't show when installed. Only thing that I would have done differently would be to use a 7050 or 7075 alloy for thread and pin shear strength. (As well as being somewhat nicer to mill, being less "gummy".) Helicoils don't seem practical here. But probably not an issue, especially with the FastFire III and it's top loading battery.

Can't see or load photos right now on the pirated wifi, may get some done for next week.

OT: Thinking that 629 PP might be a fun US BB entry if the elevation adjustments are repeatable. Certainly ought to do for FPAS. Could even be used as a "flop" position UAS BB set-up if the operator is able. Use your offhand pinkie to keep the revolver from contacting the shooting platform and it's not unlike shooting from the bench if your neck can take it!

Even more OT: Thinking it's time to bring back the .45 Colt 625 PP. But this time with the big 'ol Ultra Dot. That is still my best cast boolit launcher! Next year should have a 25-15 to try. Thin barrel, but no "illegal" porting. If it works out, "retire" the 625 PP to hunting duty, possibly with a FF III and R.E. mount!

Hi all,

I have been off the forum for a bit (toiling in the shop) and just now saw this thread.

Susan and I are pleased that you folks like the mount.

FYI, it should work fine with the Vortex Venom as well. I discovered a foot print drawing on their website that matches my design within a couple of thousands on a couple dimensions and exactly on most dimensions.

Web info also suggests that the Docter III has the same foot print. Can anyone verify that?

Some detail photos of the new mount:

Comes with all three screws (unlike my "other" silver colored mount) and a small tube of 243 Loctite, which ought to be enough to do 50 more!

Mount height probably doesn't vary 0.020" between the three, hard to be more precise without actually installing each on the same revolver, as the RMR base bears on the outer edges of the topstrap. The Raptor Engineering and Allchin measure within 0.010" from bottom of base rib to top flat. Roughly 0.240" vs. 0.250".

I have nothing against Raptor and didn't know of them before this post. However, it seems pretty clear 75Vette is not comparing apples to apples in his comments about Allchin. I have been using Allchin mounts for years on my Rugers and Smiths with no complaints or problems.

The comparative pix and measurements make it clear the diff. between Raptor and Allchin is minimal. Maybe 75Vette can explain his comment vs. the posts above.

I intend to try a Raptor!

While there's not a huge difference by any means in height between the two (as jaymoore documented) I personally feel that the 4 all metal vs 2 nylon locating pins make this a good choice. I wasn't trying to trash the Allchin, just give an "attaboy" to a well made product.
