I really like the Granada version of the Sherlock Holmes' stories w/ Jeremy Brett & MI5 (aka Spooks)as well as Monty Python etc. However, my absolute favorite is the "Cracker" series w/ Robbie Coltraine as the boozing, gambling psychologist that works as a consultant w/ the Manchester Police. The characters are all flawed but very real.It is refreshing to see the continuity of the plot lines. Arguments between the characters can linger for many episodes giving the longtime viewer an understanding of their behavior toward each other. The original (and best) incarnation of the series ran fron '93-'96. Jimmy McGovern's writing is spot on.

Has anyone else here seen it?

What is your favorite British TV series?

Was "The Avengers" with Diana Rigg British?

"Rumpole of the Bailey" was great... hehe... "She Who Must Be Obeyed." :D

I liked Barbara Woodhouse's series on dog training.. "WALKIES!"

Bennie Hill of course but that wasn't really a series...

I like the cop shows. "Blood in the Wire" is one of my favorites. A lot like "Cracker",which I will have to look for.
f.t.

The Avengers was indeed British.

My favorites from the years I was stationed in the UK are Time Team and Antiques Roadshow.

My wife likes Taggart, Midsomer Murders, Inspector Morse and Spooks.

Since we have a worldwide capable DVD player, we still buy UK DVDs.

Dr. Who
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Presentations like "I Claudius" and "Danger UXB" are my absolute favorites.

Ah yes. The list is long. The Brits make some good TV. My wife watches a channel that specializes in BBC shows. Not sure what it is. Lots of mysteries.

Our #1 all time favorite was Midsomer Murders. A distant second place would got to the Avengers (I could NOT take my eyes off Diana Rigg) followed by Monty Pythons Flying Circus.

I'm still in love with Diana Rigg, even after she married James Bond 007 and got shot in the head. He is British too.

Years ago, when I lived in Dallas, one of the stations there had a "British Invasion Nite", featuring British comedy. Monty Python, Benny Hill, The Two Ronnie's, Fawlty Towers...they'd run them all. Some British humor didn't translate well, but enough of it did for me to stay tuned in. You can tell by my signature which was my favorite! I sure miss all those shows.

Doctor Who.

I first started watching it on public TV in Chicago when I was in grammar school in the 1960s. When it started out, they spent less money on special effects, sets AND costumes than Charlie Sheen probably spends on coke in a week.

For my wife and me it has to be :
