Was in my local Walmart today and as usual cruised through sporting good to check on ammo. They have some Federal (in red box) .45 ACP (230 FMJ) aluminum case at a great price.

I don't normally shoot aluminum case ammunition. Any problems with this ammo? Have never seen Federal aluminum case before. They also had in 9mm for less than 10/box.

Also the clerk there said that Federal bought Blazer - any idea if that is correct.

No problem. Good range ammo. Ran the 45 through my Glock, HK, S&W 4566, Sig P220, and Springfield. 1911 TRP.

Ran 9mm through Glocks, HK, Sig 228, S&W 5906.

I don't think they bought Blazer but it's possible they buy the cases from Blazer

Vista Outdoors (previously ATK) owns many sporting goods companies including Federal Cartridge, CCI and Speer. So in regards to the Federal Champion aluminum cased ammo being sold at Walmart stores, yes it is CCI that's producing this ammo. (BLAZER is a CCI product).

CCI also produces the Independence brand and Cabela's Herters TNJ (both alum cased).

I don't usually buy aluminum cased ammo because I reload, but I have shot it in my .45 caliber 1911s in the past, no problems with firing or function. I wouldn't shy away from aluminum if I had any.

I've shot the 9mm and 45 with no problems.

I've shot the 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 auto through all my pistols and it is just as accurate and functions as well as any brass cased ammo I ve ever used. I've said before, if I didn't reload, this would be all I'd buy. Price is definitely right :-)

Worked well in my 1911, 1917, and my Tommy gun very well. If I had to buy factory again instead of reloading, wouldn't hesitate on it for 45, very satisfied.

9mm, on the other hand, I wasn't as pleased with the 9mm Luger aluminum. My Hi Power over my chrono averaged 1093 fps with the 115 grain bullet, a bit anemic, but worst of all it couldn't hold a 12 inch group at 80 yards out of my Uzi carbine, and didn't have enough recoil to cycle it with any reasonable amount of reliability. Would like to hear if anyone else has had any accuracy issues with carbine, and if it was barrel twist or what.

I use it, in 9mm, for classes where I can't collect my brass to reload.

The only aluminum ammo I have ever had a problem with is Blazer .25 ACP 50 grain FMJ. I have a little Colt vest pocket and it will stove pipe often with it. Never malfunctions with brass cases. Could be the gun but I'm gonna blame the ammo anyway.
Peace,
Gordon
