Why is Federal's 9mm HST +P 147 grain ammo (HST4) some what easier to find than the standard pressure (HST2) version?

Matter of fact I cannot find the standard pressure at all.

Thanks

I also wanted the standard stuff..........

but settled for the HST4 ammo.

Glad that I did.

First test out of my 3.5" 9mm only clocked 955 fps.....
with a low of 944.

944 fps is the speed of a 38 special !!

147 gr 9mm rounds are subsonic by design....

It's a proven load.Federal may well be filling large agency contracts for it which would be a contributing factor for the lack of availability. Also, the word is getting out that it's the best performing
of the HST loads in 9mm which puts it in high demand.I have a good supply, but last time I ordered I could't find it in stock either so I bought the 124gr standard pressure just to up my ammo supply. A nice load also but I'm good for a while and wait for the 147 before I order defensive ammo again.
The Rangers are also excellant, but again difficult to find right now.

I have some of both, the +p version and the standard version. I shot them out of my XDs and, to be honest with you, couldn't tell much of a difference in the groupings and the recoil. The only problem I see with the +p is some gun manufacturers don't recommend using them. As for not finding them, I was told that some manufactures run a batch of a certain round for so many days or weeks then change the tooling and run a different round for the next caliber, but I don't know how true that is.

The standard velocity rounds have done as well or better in formal testing, so there is no reason to use the +P. I spent some time looking for one of the standard velocity 147 grain loads for my 940, and it was an ugly project. Fortunately a friend had some and is sending it, or I would still be banging my head on that wall.
