Would anyone know what years this type packaging was used? I found a good deal on ammo and was curious as to how old it might be.
Thank you

If you go to the Federal web-site you will see that style is one of several currently used by them for the American Eagle line:Shop products in Handgun today | Federal Premium

I do have a box of American Eagle .380s that I have had for over 30 years in the same packaging! So it is impossible to even guess how old that box is!

Quit worrying about how old ammunition is! If it is in good condition visually and still in factory packaging it is good!

That box style is fairly recent. They only started using the new packaging a few months ago. BTW, I have some of that and it is excellent ammo! If you can get it at a good price, don't hesitate to buy a bunch! Even though the AE is supposed to be Federal's promo line, the pictured ammo is actually better performance-wise than the premium Federal using the same spec's.

I don't really carry a 1911 45 acp as a SD gun (just too big and heavy), however if it were ever called upon for HD the AE 230 grain ball ammo pictured is rated 890fps vs the 850fps from the regular Federal ball ammo. I don't know why, but it is faster ammo. If not using Hollow Point ammo, you are better off with the AE than other ball ammo from other manufacturers as it is actually a bit hotter. Even though I am a big proponent of hollow points for SD use, in a 1911 that was never meant to function with hollow points I opt for this ball ammo from AE. It never fails, always feeds perfectly and just plain works. I have shot tens of thousands of rounds of it.

That style packaging goes back to at least the mid 90s. I used to buy .223 FMJs for $3.99 a box when I first got an AR, that wad back in '96.

Judging by the condition of the box, I wouldn't care if it was 100 years old. My bet is, it's fine to shoot.

I have a box just like that. It goes back to the 1990's.

Well, checked out ammo at wally world in Yulee and noticed the Federal 7.62 ball now comes in 40 round boxes!!!!

Maybe one of the experts can tell you from the lot number that is probably printed inside the flap. Maybe tell a year or something.
