Was at Bass Pro yesterday looking for .44 Magnum ammo.
They had a several choices, two of them being Federal American Eagle and Winchester white box. Both were the same load, 240 gr. JSP, velocity was nearly identical. The Winchester was $40 and the American Eagle was $54, both were 50 round boxes. I asked what the difference was since the loads were about as close to identical as you can get.
The guy said he had no idea other than that Federal did recently have an across the board price increase. Seems like a pretty sharp increase to say the least. Only a guess but I'd
guess the Federal stuff may sit on the shelf a while. I walked out with neither, I was looking for Hornady 240 gr. XTP.
