My wife has always carried her Charter .44 in her purse, not a holster on her body.
I bought three women's holsters from George Cake Company, police supply, originally designed I believe for police women. When I was a young man starting as County Undersheriff in a Colorado Rural County, we did not have a female officer on the Sheriff Dept or Police Depts. From time to time it was desireable to have a female on call to come to the jail and my wife was the one that I selected for the job.
The George Cake purses that I bought for her were relatively small, easy to carry, with a shoulder strap for use if needed. I remember that they were different colors. Over almost 60 years my wife has owned other purses, of various colors and materials also but all were designed similar to the original George Cake leather purses. They all have a flap over the opening on top, for access to the usual contents of the purse, with zipper or Velco opening on the end that opens to house her revolver.
My daughter, now a Grandmother, has also carried her CW in purses simmilar to the one her mother uses.
Police Supply companies, such as George Cake Co, may still make such holster/purses. My wife has also had a few made by local leather shops to her specs.
I suspect that perhaps most women who carry on their person, also carry some type of purse. A holster/purse might be convenient for many woman.
