Any of y’all doing the Feast of the Seven Fishes? My BIL usually does it on the Eve but he’s at another location tonite.


Fortunately, he will be serving some baked homemade mahkneegotz Christmas day, manicotti to the masses. . And of course the usual antipasti, soup and deserts. Yumm.

I could eat seafood every day, but Mrs Chad isn't a big fan.

It's customary for some to not eat red meat on Christmas Eve, so we'll be having Cob salad for dinner. I did make a big pot of cabbage soup for lunch. I feel healthier already!

It is just the two of us so the “Feast of the 7 Fishes” is modified a bit so we do not waste food. Tonight we will have two sashimi platters with seven different fish on each one. A blending of cultures!

additions to the menu

Probably my fault (

) since it usually is (

) my wife's backslid on her Italian roots but we'll have sausage, peppers and onions tonight with a shrimp cocktail.
Ribeyes on the grill tomorrow for more nontraditional eats.
I do miss the salt cod, calamari, fish stew (ciopino?) among the other offerings Marianna's family would prepare for the feast.


Wonder of wonders, 76deg. NE @ 10mph and humidity just below 70% means the house is wide open with the smell of just baked peanut butter cookies and soon to be fried cauliflower is and will be wafting thru the air.

No 7 Fishes but not bad at all.

Leaving soon for a friend's house. I believe tonight's board of fare is just that. Crackers cheese and meats on a board. Tomorrow he's planning on ratatouille for dinner. I'll probably leave before dinner though as his adult stepkids will drive me crazy. When I had a family, we used to do clam chowder on the eve. I had some last night.
