So there wasn't really a best spot to post this, but I think here is, and I'll explain why later. Anyway, to the good stuff. I'm not new to AR's per se, but thought it was about time for a pistol. Well in the mix of things I ended up with enough extra stuff to build a couple. I had originally planned on a 300 BLK pistol, but with availability of ammo in my town, I'd never get to shoot it. There's only one place that has 300 on a normal basis, and it's gone pretty quick. I work out of town 4 weeks at a time. Gone 4, home 2. So I don't reload because time is money when I'm only home a third of the time. Anyway, ammo availability steered me to do a 7.62x39 pistol. The more I looked around and researched, the more I was happy with the x39 round. I wanted to go down to 7.5", so the loss in velocity is somewhat made up with the 7.62 round. In my mind anyway. So I started my journey on what parts and equipment I wanted and went after it. I decided on a couple 80% lowers. One for the pistol, one for my girlfriends AR I built.
This was while I was milling out the lower
This was when I got the lower pretty much finished, had some fitting to do after it all came together, along with the 7.62 barrel, low-pro gas block, bolt, and enhanced firing pin
It was around this time that I came across a complete 7.5" 5.56 upper on GB from Hardened Arms for a helluva deal, so I couldn't pass it up. So that showed up and I realized I had everything but another lower to just have 2 complete pistols. So I did what anybody would do and went and bought another lower lol. I went with poly 80% lowers because I just wanted to give them a try, and I figured since the 7.62 was on a pistol, there wouldn't be as much stress where the buffer tube screws in because there's no stock. So the recoil kinda gets absorbed by your arms in theory. Anyway, the 80% black lower went under the Harnened Arms 5.56, and I got a New Frontier lower to put the 7.62 on. I wasn't necessarily looking for another poly lower, but that's all they had in stock and I didn't want to wait since I didn't have much longer before I had to come back to work. So the configuration changed a little, parts got moved around, but this is what I ended up with. Still looking for a muzzle device to settle on, and have a dust cover on order, but I'm pretty happy so far. I finished them last night, and had to come back to work today, so I haven't fired the 7.62 yet. The Hardened Arms upper I'm pretty surprised with. I paid right at 300 shipped for the complete upper. It's gonna get a different foregrip, just not decided on which yet.
The Hardened Arms with the Surefire 60 and Bushnell TRS-25
The finished(for now) brothers
So the reason I posted here is that my original M&P15 Sport lower is gonna get a stamp to SBR it. Than I'll have the convenience of a couple actual stocked 7.5"-ers. The Sig Brace is nice, but it'll be nice to have choices of stocks.
Build list 5.56
-Hardened Arms complete 7.5" 5.56 upper
-80% lower I finished
-Forget which buffer tube I got, IIRC it's an Ace with a shorter pad, the long pad had issues with the charging handle hitting it.
-YHM extended takedown pins
-Blackhawk LPK
-CAA ambi, ergo grip
-Bushnell TRS-25 red-dot.
Build list for the 7.62x39
-Palmetto State stripped upper
-7.5" 7.62x39 barrel
-7.62 bolt
-Enhanced firing pin designed for 7.62
-New Frontier reinforced poly lower
-Rock River quadrail with YHM free-float adapter.
-Daniel Defense low-profile gas block
-Mako magwell grip
-ASC 30-rd mags
-Enhanced "Teardrop" Forward assist
-Ambi paddle latch for the Charging handle
-KAK pistol buffer tube
-Blackhawk LPK
-Blackhawk Ergo grip
-Sig Brace SB15
-Burris 332 Prism sight.
The sister to the pistol brothers lol. The other 80% lower.
