Passing through Altoona, PA, yesterday I spied a Field & Stream store and decided to stop in for a quick look. Time constraints limited me a bit, but a quick tour found it amazing.

There were more than 200 handguns on display and for sale, of course. Many more long guns. Ammo was stacked on the floor...not locked up...and seemed to be in every caliber imaginable. They had holsters and grips out the gazoo, gun safes in every size imaginable, scopes galore, and just about every gun related item I could comprehend.

Eleven stores so far in the US of A; check one out if you can find one. I will soon return for a lengthy visit; most likely will take a few hours.

Be safe.

I've got one a few miles down the pike. Easily accesable via side roads or by the hated interstate. I think the OP here should edit his thread to point out that none of the ammo on the floor was .22. I haven't seen a pallet of hens teeth, either. I even went to the one here on their opening day sale. And I bought a P238. Of course I decided I didn't like it, so I gave it away. My son was pleased I didn't like it. Go figure.

F & S opened in Elmira, NY about a month ago. Total freak show for the opening three-day festivities. All the .22 was stocked in back, and had to be requested. Everything else was on the sales floor. Lots of rifles and semi-auto handguns, but only a handful of revolvers. Prices are MSRP.

Nice place to visit and window shop, but F & S impressed me as on par with Gander Mountain.

Got a new one about a mile from my shop. I bought my kid a Savage .270 and I got a great deal. They were flush with ammo (incl 22lr bricks and buckets) around Black Friday. Some of their deals and stuff have been good. I will say they have quite a few folks to help you and they seem reasonably trained and polite.

Personally, with the new philosophy at Gander Mtn. (a couple blocks away) Field and Stream blows them out of the water.

The heck you say! I live close to that same store and drive past it often and made my mind up it wasn't worth visiting. Now I just may.

They are owned by Dick's.....the first one opened here in Cranberry north of Pittsburgh....18-24(?) months ago............they converted a Dick's. (Dick's in headquartered in Pittsburgh area)

Lots of stuff not found at LGS....but not cheap..... they have had .22lr at times but spotty.

Great place to shop ....... then get your LGS to order, or go on line!!!!!!

As I said not cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
