Finally found a good reason to buy a .40 cal

Hmmmm.... didn't know one needed a reason to buy any firearm of any caliber, much less a good reason :) Guess that's why I'm in the dog house....

Most all the city, county and DNR officers around here shoot .40s and they use our local range. I guess you could call them slobs, 'cause they don't police their brass -- just leave it where it falls. So when a good deal on an LEO S&W4046 trade in popped up, I grabbed it. Lets just say I do my part, now, keeping the range picked up! I'm planning to have my Delta Elite fitted with a .40 barrel to make it more economical to shoot action pistol with., too.

.40 is my favorite handgun round and I've loaded thousands of rounds of it. I don't find it any more snappy than shooting .38 Special out of a J frame.

I jumped on the 40S&W bandwagon the first year it was available, back in 1990. I knew I wanted an EAA Witness (CZ copy) because it felt like it was made for my hand, and I snagged the first one I ever saw. 22 years later I gave it to my son, he grew up shooting it and considered it "his" gun, so he got it for his birthday. The round count currently stands at a shade under 50,000 rounds, but he'll surpass that pretty soon, it's been a very good gun.

I've never been a fan of Ruger semiauto pistols, but I walked into a deal on a new SR-40 a couple weeks ago, and decided to get it as a truck/tackle-box gun. I shot it this week and it's a keeper, I can't remember any autopistol I've ever shot so well the first time out. Out of full-sized guns the recoil isn't even a factor, but I can see how it could be snappy with heavy bullets in a compact Tuppergun. I shoot a 155-grain cast bullet over seven grains of Power Pistol, and steel plates go down like they've been poleaxed.

For a gun I was completely prepared to hate, I'm really happy I snagged it! The grip (unlike most Rugers) is very slim, and the mags hold 15 rounds in a moderately-sized pistol. I think the 40S&W is an excellent "compromise" cartridge. ;)

HIGH CAPICITY MAGS,

The government could have saved money by buying

REVOLVERS and teaching them how to shoot.

They would not have needed so many MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF ROUNDS.

Remember:

If going to a gunfight,

Take a rifle or shotgun,

unless you have the ability to call an AIRSTRIKE IN.

Very snappy, vs. the .45ACP firm push. The 40S&W recoil characteristics remind me a lot of a .357 Magnum type of recoil, just a tad "lighter."

I think my 411 is snappier than any of my 10mms. Must be the weight of the gun. 10 isn't snappy at all, just pushes a little harder than the 45.

I see the 40sw as the modern and improved version of the 9mm. People like say the 9mm is better than the 40 by saying they can use +p+. But when I compare super high pressure 9mm to 40 SW, and a sammi spec 40sw will still edge out the +p+ 9mm. If that wasn't enough, how many 9mm handguns can handle 10s of thousands firings of +p+ ammo without a hick-up? pretty few I bet.

40sw is pretty much equal to 45acp and edges out the 44special.

you pretty much have to stick to magnum rounds (or the 10mm) to find a clearly more powerful handgun.

Have been shooting the 45 since 1969 and the 9mm since 89 or so. Have many rounds of each on hand and see no need for me to have a .40.

the SIG P226 & P229 w/ interchangable .40 S&W and SIG .357 barrels is reason enough for me...pistols designed specifically to allow the dual caliber option (no caliber markings on slide, just the barrel, and the mags show ".40/.357" and both calibers are equally reliable in the P229 or P226)...I really enjoy this format...

I agree on the 'snappy' recoil. The .40 reminds me of the CZ52 7.62x25, another round that I don't enjoy shooting. I'll stick with .45 ACP, thanks.

Tried a .40 a while back, it has a nasty, sharp recoil compared to a .45. It doesn't do anything that a .45 can't do. The .45 can throw equal weight bullets at the same or greater velocity, or throw heavier bullets than the .40 is capable of, and can do it with 14,000 psi less pressure.

I was never interested in the 40cal but i am interested in the colt delta elite in 10mm. If i'm going to bump up from the 45acp i better jump bigger. After all wasn't the 40cal developed because most LEO's couldn't handle the 10mm?

The 7,62x25 will probably shoot farther accuracy wise too. Thats one little speedy round.

There stocking up on 40cal ammo? (homeland security) 12-21-2012 is comming i figure if the SHTF they won't be reloading.
