I found it OK at best with too many long in the mouth moments. What surprised e was, I didn't know that that actual captain, was rescued at night. WELL DONE to the actual rescuers. Loved the way they gave IDing clothing for the captain to wear and the pirates suspected nothing.

Captain Phillips was/is a great movie. The scene with Hanks after the rescue and he is in sick bay getting treated, shows what a good actor he is.

Just seems lame that cargo ships can not carry weapons in International waters. One or two AR's or AKs would have stopped the whole thing, rather than water hoses:rolleyes:
Heck a high power bolt 308 or 30-06 could have shot the engines out and no one gets hurt.

If I ever buy a boat, it's going to have a Vulcan mounted on the deck to repel freeloading relatives.

I've always said that a high %, maybe even 90+%, of 'movie problems' could be solved with a decent gun.

Captain Phillips appears to have needed a 30-06 and a box of ammo.

Oh, with a 4 power scope.

I'd settle for one of those modified STG 44s, that can shoot around corners. Either way, I'd have stowed a few rifles on board, Intl law or not?

I do not venture into International waters but do keep a gun on board within State waters.

Isn't a large ship of whatever type flying it's Country of origin flag considered a part of that Country??. So say a US flagged ship, why can't they carry guns??

I can't answer that as I do not know. What I do know, is my grandfather as captain of first, the SS Fort Lee, later the SS New London, always had weapons on board. He captained from slightly before WWII, through to the 60s. His personal weapon, was a captured German luger.

The Navy medical pro (sorry don't remember her exact rank/mos) is a real sailor, Hanks talked to her to put her at ease and said to just do her job and the rest would follow. He is a true professional.

As for Phillips, well he ignored multiple warnings to avoid that route. I'll let history decide what kind of man he is. I've made up my mind.
