Some time back, I had picked up a sad and tired 1st. Mod. DA in .44 Russian. Mechanics were pretty good, but cosmetically it was most unattractive. Well! I took 'er apart and shipped it off to a gunsmith for a reblue. I'd done all the prep work, removing the remnants of the old nickel and getting it ready. In the reassembly, I managed to break the trigger spring, which was already fatigued. You have no idea how many languages I can cuss in! Thanks to the good folks on this site I found a fella who made me a replacement spring. Well today I got at 'er! I hit a few snags in the reassembly but it it now complete and fully functional thanks in big part to the members on this site and their generous sharing of information. You can see what it was and what it now is. I know some purists would argue that the cosmetics weren't an issue and originality rules. I understand both positions, but I think the nickel was not original to the pistol anyway.

That first model DA in 44 is one of my grail guns. Color me JUST a little green with envy!!

As far as the reblue, it's your revolver so it's your choice. For me, when most of the nickel is gone, why not spruce the old gal up a bit. It looks beautiful.
