I've been looking for a clean shooter victory for the last 10 years ( not very hard mind you ) and finally found what I hope is something that fits that bill. timing and lock up seem great. I'm not sure I over paid ( $550 ) but really I don't care too much. serial # is V5044xx. what can you guy tell me about this? date? markngs? kraut killer? either way I'm happy, it should be a good shooter.
thanks for looking

I've been on the same quest as you. Prices seem to be going up lately, so I think you did really well.

Price is pretty much in line with the current market. Most likely it saw service with the Navy, as there are very few Army-documented victory revolvers out there. Very cool revolver!

Here is a link to a thread with a lot of useful information regarding these particular victory revolvers.

1st post- Victory ignorance isn't bliss

Looks like a nice one.Very clean for an old Victory. Looks like 4" ? It'll be interesting to hear what the members come up with for dates and such. Excellent shooter Enjoy.

I don't follow them too closely anymore as I have three. But 1944 s/n's range from V49xxxx to V74xxxx.

I have logged V497718 as shipping Dec 1943 and V524756 shipping Feb 1, 1944.

I paid $400.00 about ten years ago from a forum member. Then I thought I paid too much, but not anymore. I remember seeing the Victory revolvers for sale in the surplus stores for $40-50 and nobody wanted them. Mine ain't for sale and never will be. Heirs are already picked out.

Australian Victory

I'm a sucker for any S&W revolver with a 4" barrel, so when I saw this one going cheap I had to bite. It's an Australian contract Victory with an ugly parkerized finish, and, yes, it still has the Property of US government stamp along with other Navy and export markings. Unfortunately it's also 38 S&W, so I haven't got to shoot it yet.

I've got four revolvers in 38 S&W including one like yours that went to New Zealand. 38 S&W ammo cab be ordered like my son did for me. It's a pleasant caliber to shoot but I like something stronger for self defense.

That's certainly a far better example than you commonly encounter nowadays. Have you looked to see if the stocks are numbered to the gun? It appears to me as if it might've been wearing magna stocks at some point.

Yup. Standard service grips with the matching number hand stamped into the inside of the right panel. Although it looks like they were shellacked at one time.
