Went to the LGS/Range yesterday for our first 'real' shooting class... the NRA Basic Pistol Course...

Had to do the entire 8 hour class in one day as either Julie or my work schedule had somehow conflicted with the twice-a-week, 4 hour evening classes that were offered... :(

Last time I was in an 8 hour class (work related), I could barely keep my eyes open after lunch... this course was waaaay different... learned lots of fascinating stuff and finally got to dust off the pistol we bought back on Black Friday!

One of the more interesting items happened at the shooting range... Julie has had lasik done in the past--she opted for 'mono-vision' (one eye focuses for distance vision, the other focuses on close objects) which works very well under most circumstances... however...

Focusing on the front sight, as she was taught, Julies first shot went 'wide right'... as well as her second-thru-fourth attempts--barely catching the edge of her target (12' distant)... as one of the instructors came over we had him 'test fire' our brand spankin' new M&P .22 to check the accuracy of the sights... his shot went dead-center of the silhouette target... well, the gun's ok... :p

He had Julie try several different items--relax her dominant hand, squeeze the trigger, unlock her knees--til we mentioned Julie's lasik/mono-vision... his suggestion was for her to 'close one eye'-- as she did, the pistol almost magically swung a few degrees to the left... next 'bang' put Julies first hole in the center square of the target and a broad smile on her face (no pun intended)... :D

Next item on the agenda (besides more and more range time) is a visit to the county sheriff's office for a CCW permit...

Now... where can I find more ammo...?

Sounds like a fine day!
Julie was probably using her 'wrong' eye to sight the pistol. Did the instructor explain the dominant eye concept?
Might be tough with her lasik...I've done monovision with contact lenses. I had my dominant eye corrected for distance, and the other for close up.
If that's the way she is, and can't see her front sight with her dominant eye, try this:
Take a pair of regular safety glasses, and figure out what magnification she needs to see the front sight.
Buy these lenses..
www.StickonBifocals.com Optx 20/20 Hydro Tac Reading Lenses $25.00 a pair with FREE Shipping! We are
in the correct strength, and just put one on the lens for her dominant eye, up at the top of the safety glass lens.
Then she can just tip her head a bit, to see her front sight clearly.
Good luck!
